How do you increase your Facebook presence?

I agree, it’s far easier to update FB than a website, though the website is also important as it allows a more personal portrayal of your stud farm / product.

The other point is, if a PAGE likes another PAGE, it doesn’t show up as a ‘‘Like’’. PAGES have to be ‘‘Liked’’ by PEOPLE for it to read on the ‘Like’ counter.

fwiw

We rolled 10,000 Likes today on our page. We were pretty stuck around 2500 at the beginning of the year but that seems to be a threshold number for a lot of pages fwiw. There was a bit of a lull again at 5K, but it has been steady growth/loss since then. We average 15-50 new Likes per day and lose 3-4 fans, so it is consistent.

As far as Pages and liking other pages, if you click on the downward facing arrow below the cover image, there is an option for ‘Add to My Page’s Favorites’. Not sure if it will count towards the Like count, but it can be a useful networking tool for busy pages some times.

That being said, I have to get up early and get crackin’ on the website. It’s about 2 months overdue for an update on the majority of the pages for our current horses.

I just have to thank you for posting this. Aside from laughing at this, flipping through other parts of the site has filled many vacant moments of downtime tonight at work. Hilarious stuff. a la Hyperbole and a Half. Carry on.

Oh, that Oatmeal site is priceless! Important too. I think so many people rate their pages by number of likes, when in fact there’s no way of knowing how many have liked and then unsubscribed for exactly the reasons the Oatmeal points out. Better to have posts that are actually interesting to people, which of course is tricky as you can’t please everyone.

Amen to the oatmeal. Some people give wayyyy too much significance to their facebook likes and fans. I’ll take one real life loyal customer over 100 facebook people “liking” the cute horsey pic any day.

Quality over quantity, applies to both breeding and facebook

The oatmeal site is hilarious! Thanks for posting it.

Has anyone had any luck with horse classified sites that help to promote your horses and your facebook page? There are several that do it, but the specific one I was looking at is Horse Breeders Direct. They have a facebook app that lists your sale horses on your page and links them to the classified ad. They also promote your horse on their page and their prices seem reasonable.

I am a very small breeder (not my full ime job), and never have more than 2 or 3 horses for sale. I have to stay on a budget, but would like to promote my business more. I love the layout of the Exchange Hunter Jumper site, but most of the horses I sell are young (under $15,000), or dressage oriented. What are your experiences?

Thanks for such a great thread!

Thanks for the info!! I can’t wait to get home and try it out … Facebook just baffles me. About the time I think I have it figured out, they change something. …

And I agree, I really hate the postings about every little thing that person has done in their day, or the ones with all the politics, or philosphy quotes …

Not to change the subject, but do you have any tips for You Tube?? How do you get more people to see your videos?

I dug this thread up from the dead since I finally got around to making a Facebook Business Page! I went through and “liked” everyone on this thread.

Any tips for marketing towards a more local area?

Thanks for the great ideas in this thread!

That is pretty fabulous  I guess my question is, as your numbers raised so dramatically, did it help with sales (of your horses, stud fees, etc)? Aka are you targeting horse people?

I’m also one that keeps my personal Facebook page separate from our business page: http://www.facebook.com/daventryequestrian

And even on my personal Facebook page, I try not to ever say anything I wouldn’t say into a microphone at a concert in front of anyone I’ve ever met…

We customized our Facebook business pages and added more pages to them and people seem to like it - enough that I’m getting asked to personal business FB pages for other people.

How or where did you add the YouTube “app” on the top of your FB page? That is great – I hadn’t seen that before. I would like to link my videos to our FB pages.

I have a different FB page for my stallion (www.facebook.com/KWPNstallion), our pony stallion prospect (https://www.facebook.com/OhKaptainUnderpants) and our farm (www.facebook.com/seafiresporthorses)

Definite upswing in the lesson & clinic business. 80% increase in sales inquiries and a 30% increase in semen sales - we’re dealing strictly in frozen for now.

Sales have not necessarily increased as buyers seem to be wanting a less than 7 year old 16.2 dark bay or black gelding with chrome, schooling 4th level with scores at 3rd above 70%, a solid 3’6" course, hacks alone or with company - all in a snaffle for an advanced beginner rider (who asks “how do you ask for the canter?” during the test ride no less) ~ all for under 10K with a perfect vetting.

We’re at 12,700 and a few fans as of 5pm today. If it ‘only’ gets the farm name out there and has our horses seen by more people - that is enough for now IMO. Personally, I expect more sales traffic to come from getting the horses out in the show arenas than off of FB…but that’s the riding stock, not selling foals.

 My favorite is how we’ve done the Stallion Facebook Pages!

Yeah - and then to be told ‘you should breed for your market’ … Is that the same one where full board is $150 a month and breeches never get dirty?

Nice landing page Daventry! Love the new video of Power play.

I am going to see if I can make one of those for my page.

Ha ha ha!!! Isn’t that the truth?

Tasker, sending you a PM

I am re-enacting this thread. I just ran an ad on FB based on the information in this post. But, I am not really sure how the ads work. Who sees them? Where are they? I know someone is as I got some more likes in the last 12 hours since I purchased the ad.

Thanks, Ellen
