How Do You Know You're in a Bad Horse Movie?

The baddies all ride with chicken wings flapping.

I have loved this thread. I just watched a movie which put in all the cliches like what we are saying in a dance movie.

It is called Dance Flick and it is silly but it did have me laughing out loud.

The horse never poops. Classic western scene with busy town street – no poop anywhere. Class English 19th century scene – no poop. If there is poop, then it for comic effect, as in some falls in it. Horses also never pee in movies. Heck, you definitely never the horse drop unless the editor was blind. I wish my horses watched these movies and noticed the lack of random peeing and pooping.
That, and the horses just stand there, tied. Quietly. For hours. Mine would be: pick on your buddy, dance, chew the rail, holler to the horse across the street, dance some more, paw, chew the rail again, paw a hole up to his knee. Etc.

Only horse noise you hear are whinnies, nickers and neighs. Not farts. Which are the actual sounds horses make most often. True story.
I cannot top this.
Have you noticed that no one in movies ever gets a face full of green booger sneeze?

Anyone seen the one with the rich show girl whose dad loses everything, including her beloved horse. She and bro move in with uncle (Hercules!) who is a vet out west. Someone randomly gives girl yearling mule who she is riding by the end of the movie and saves the day going where no horse can go?

Based on that my clue is#:

Rapid age horse: baby horse magically ages 4 years while kid stays the same.
Ok, so tell me if this works: if I start treating other riders badly, will my father become rich? Just checking.

You are all making this a great thread!

Downton Abbey added one Sunday night: daughter of the house walks into the stable block. Horse neighs off-camera. Yet … no horse anywhere in sight!

Where a great feat of horsemanship is teaching your horse to rear while you ride.

The horse is attacked by a cougar, even if they are not native to the setting…

How about there is an accident, young owner/rider/trainer who turned it from wild beast to loving partner despite naysayers is injured.

Horse runs many miles home. Rears, snorts and paws and, of course, neighs to get somebody to notice loose, still tacked up horse rearing in front of house. Finally somebody gets into a jeep Horse then leads them back many miles to injured young person without stopping for food, water and visit with buddies.

Yeah, right, happens all the time.

We’ve all seen it a thousand times – the close up of the rider on the galloping horse where the rider’s fake upper-body movements are completely out of sync with the “galloping” horse’s neck.

I can’t believe that doesn’t look wrong even to non-horse people.

And the lightings all wrong on the phony scenery on a screen behind the actor and fake horse head and neck. Course, you see that with people in cars and “on” motorcycles too.

Ditto the buckin’ bronc scenes. The star’s big close-up shows such slow, controlled movements, it makes riding a buck look easy.

Well, sure. It’s the equine version of “Timmy fell down the well!”

I don’t care how good Peter Jackson’s CG is, I know a fake CG horse when I see one.

It does. Nonhorsey Mr. CH comments on this often. Usually something along the line of how I need to work on my “boogie” while on horseback.

Sweet waif like protagonist never gets grubby or gets green stains on her shirt after grooming and mucking out. Also doesn’t get mussed hair after riding, or helmet hair in the unlikely event that she wore a helmet

And doesn’t get wet hair after riding in the rain.

I think the worst part of it all is having to explain to my “just horsey enough to get by” husband why 90% percent of what is happening is wrong. Just wrong.

Screaming “YEHAAAAAW!!!” At the top of your lungs while trying to gallop crosscountry and shoot at people is never going to happen. Ever. Good luck with that. And no, that four beat lope you force our nanny mare to do on occasion is no where close to galloping. Just no… Thanks horsey movies…

January Jones in Mad Men! Fresh as a daisy and no helmet hair! Sigh…

I suspect Mrs. Draper was handed the reins of a saddled horse, got on, rode, and handed the reins to a groom when she got off. Wish I had a groom…

Hysterical thread!

It should make us feel a little better that my dad, a retired career Marine officer who did two tours of duty in Vietnam, goes just as crazy when he watches any military/war movie or show!
