How far away are your fixtures from where you start your drive on hunt mornings? Some with horses at home start there while others drive to a barn then haul out. I’m asking actual road miles and not as a crow flies. I’m curious to learn if driving an hour & half to two hours (60 to 100 miles one way) is pretty routine.
I drive an hour despite there being two hunts within 15-20 minutes if me. There are too many good hunts in Virginia too hunt with bad ones.
Thank you. Is that an hour of driving because it’s two lane roads or is the hunt actually 60 miles away from you?
The fixtures for my current hunt are 15 minutes to 50 minutes away (both 1/2 highway miles / country road miles). The fixtures for my previous hunt were 1hr 15 mins - 1 hr 45 minutes away (3/4 highway miles).
Due to roads and morning traffic
I regularly drive between 150 to 170 miles to hunt. We also rent a house in hunt country with some other couples. There is a hunt nearer to me, probably 20 to 10 miles away but the hunting is much better in Fitzpatrick AL. Sometimes I drive down and back but most times go and spend the night, then drive back after the hunt. Sometimes I stay down a few days but don’t like to do that too often to my horse.
I drive 60 miles; about an hour and 15 min pulling the trailer --mostly highway, then small roads. I look forward to my books on tape --only time I can listen to them!
10 miles, 20 minutes. I can hit 5+ hunt clubs in about an hour’s drive. When I lived in Saint Louis, 90 minutes (70 miles) was typical. I don’t miss the fuel bill or lack of sleep.
I drive 1.5 hours to our regular fixtures and 2+ to the outlying ones. BBC on XM is my friend,
Thanks so much for sharing your haul outs! I dont live far at all from the kennels and our main fixture. We have two other fixtures, one is 1 1/2 hours and the other is 2+ hours, that are used. I do hunt the 1 1/2 drive fixture from time to time but find it very rough to drive home after a long drive out, a hunt then the drive back. I applaud you all who soldier on!
