For most of the time I’ve owned my horse, it’s been 1hr+++ depending on DC area traffic. Early morning weekend show departures, I could get there in 45 minutes, but the fact I work off hours was the only thing that allowed me to ride some days, because I knew I had to leave before X time, or I wouldn’t get there/back at all. We’ve moved further out last year, and it’s been amazing; the horse is 15-20 minutes away now, depending on how I hit lights, and it makes it much easier to just pop out to give her a mint or drop off the farrier check I forgot.
About 50-60 minutes when I go after work (hooray for rush hour traffic…), but it’s only 30 minutes between the barn and my house. I’ve added quite a lot of miles to my car since buying a horse and going out to the barn more often.
Hey neighbor! I live fairly close to the Luxembourg border.
My commute is 20 min from home to the stable or 25 min from work to the stable. However, there is a detour/road closure that is making my work to stable commute 35-40 min.
In an ideal world, I prefer 30 min or less.
I drive about 30 minutes to my trainer’s barn. In the winter it can take longer if it’s snowing.
Right now, about 10 minutes. Just on the opposite side of my rural town. Basically a dream facility while still being reasonably priced for board. 50 acres, tons of well-maintained pasture, indoor, big outdoor, lunging arena, trails on site and that connect to literally hours of additional trails, great care because at this point it’s just us owners doing the care. The owners are great about maintenance, which is not the norm around here.
I’ve gone up to 30 minutes before, and hated that. I’d never do more than 15-20 in the future, but there are SO many farms around here, I realize that’s not the norm for a lot of people.
I walk out my back door, barns 25 feet away. 10 seconds and I’m to barn.No driving required.
they are at home, one hour commute to work.
I drive 10 minutes to the barn. However, I do self care (as well as take care of 4 others for a fee) so that is the only way it COULD work. If I had to drive farther like some of you, I would have to have full care and even then don’t know how I would find decent time for my horse! My hat is off to those that commute far!
Seven minutes to the barn. 45 minutes to work in the fall and winter terms.
It’s about a 17 minute drive for me to get to the barn from work. It’s a 25 minute drive to get to the barn from home. I don’t run into much traffic on my routes to/from, which is nice.
Work, home, and the horses I ride are all 45 minutes apart on a good day, more on bad days. I love my trainer thus deal with the drive, but sure would like to have less of a commute.
The two retirees are at home, and the barn has 6 stalls for future needs.
45 minutes from home, 45-60 minutes from work depending on traffic and weather. I pass a whole bunch of barns on my commute that are either too expensive or don’t meet my needs.
I work in a big city. When I lived closer to work, I boarded 45 minutes away from home. I moved to the country to keep my own horses, and now have a 60 minute drive to work.
It’s about 10 mins from my place to the barn, 20 mins if I leave from work. In the summer I ride before work (5:45 am - ish) and in the winter I usually ride after 7pm, so traffic is never an issue.
from home or work without traffic? 20 minutes.
From home or work WITH traffic? 45-55+ Minutes.
I’m just so glad to have something somewhat in the middle between work and home now. the last place was 15 minutes from home on the weekends, but 1h45m from work during the week. It sucked.
i live close to the German boarder. I could board in Germany we a similar drive to my current barn.
I’ve had it anywhere between 10 minutes to 1 hour. I’d like to say over the years my average for the majority of the different barns I was at was 30 minutes. The 1 hour barn was while I was in college. The barn I was boarding at moved. Because I had a super light schedule and knew that at the end of the semester I was moving I moved with them since it was a good group of people. Otherwise I don’t think I would’ve done it. Now they’re at home so a minute walk down to them. Normally when I was looking at barns I didn’t like to go any more than 30 minutes.
From the office where I work, it takes a little over an hour. I am there MWF. On T and Th I work from home and also shift my hours forward starting at 6 AM (the joys of a global job!), so I can leave by 3:30 from home and be at the barn in 25 minutes. If I am not out of the house by 3:55 the drive is at least an hour.
The metro Atlanta area has very few close-in options and I chose to put my horse’s comfort over my convenience.
