How far do you drive?

Reading some other posts I realize that what I have is apparently not the norm everywhere. So tell me, how far do you drive for your horses?

i drive 15min to my barn, we have summer fields for 2 horses each, inside and outside ring with new good footing, nice boxes, solarium and 2 wash racks. Our tack room isn’t climate controlled but it doesn’t matter much here.
for my daughter’s lesson barn (her personal pony is kept with my Horse) we drive 35min to a child specific purpose built facility. It’s not as “fancy” as the other barn but it’s a lesson barn with 10 kids that compete.

My horse is about 25 minutes from both my work and home. I usually ride in the morning, and go to the office from there.

45 minutes one way with no traffic.

19.4 miles, 27 minutes. I used to have them in my back yard, and the horse trails were 1 house away. Times change.

My barn is 15 minutes from my house, work is 30 minutes from my house. Barn is kind of between home and work so sometimes I can just go straight to the barn and ride on my way home in the evenings. But if SO is going to be later I have to go home and let the dog out first.

The furthest I’ve had to commute is 35 minutes to get to the barn.

An hour from home or work. If I didn’t like the barn so much I’d move. I have to admit though, there are days that I just can’t get motivated after work to get out there. :frowning:

From work 50-60 minutes, from home about 30 minutes

From home, 40-45 min one way with no traffic

From work it would be over an hour without traffic and “just not happening” with traffic! Seriously!

Less than 1 minute. I got VERY lucky when my barn moved facilities and right around the block from my subdivision. I work not too far from home so after work it takes me less than 20 minutes (depending on traffic) to go ride after work. Before my current situation, I was at a barn that was 15 minutes away. The furthest I’ve driven for a barn is 1.5 hours, but that didn’t last long - maybe half a year.

Currently, 3 hour round trip, on a good day without traffic, to visit horse in retirement board.

Previously, for many years, barns were a minimum 45 minutes to 1 hour one-way, also without traffic (with traffic could be extra 1-2 hours or so).

First barn way back when, was 5-10 minutes from home or I don’t think my parents would’ve let me get started riding.

Some at home, main training horse is three hours away. :nonchalance:

I hate it; I want him closer - but the trainer is SO good, I’ve been with her for three years, so when she moved “home” I made the sacrifice to have my horse with her and I drive quite a bit.

There are a lot of trainers much closer, but I don’t love pieces of their operation and I need someone I trust to ride M-F while I’m busy at work. I have a really, really talented horse and I want him with someone who can take him to the top. #sacrifice

9 minutes from home/work (home office) with in/out stalls(24 hour grazing), outdoor ring with wonderful new footing, just the lights need upgrading (not a problem this time of year, and in the works for winter riding). This is a barn I WOULD travel for an hour (or more!) to get to/from because the care is so great! The closest covered ring is 9 minutes the opposite direction, but the care is nowhere near as good (I know that because I did board there until I had to leave for the place I’m at now). The closest indoor ring is 20-30 minutes away, but the turnout situation would not suit my horse, and it’s a place where you have to be on their lesson plan and I have my very own terrific coach, TYVM.

40 minutes minimum, usually more with the lovely traffic on I-95! There are closer options but the footing is spectacular and it is a regulation size dressage arena in the indoor, which I really need.

Approximately ten seconds, walking, out my back door ;).

For the last nine years, until this past November, my horse was a 20 minute drive away. I went just about every afternoon after work. It helps that I’m a teacher and get off work early enough to go ride while it’s still daylight. I grew up with my horses at home but once I graduated college and moved out, had to board until now (hallelujah!). Now the barn where I boarded (the trainer I show with) is an hour away, but I’m no longer there regularly, so it’s no big deal.

I drive one hour with no traffic. Up 495 from Massachusetts to new Hampshire can be horrible Thankfully I go at 10 am on a weekday not prime commute time or it would be unbearable.

Longest - 45 mins. Shortest - 2 mins, my backyard. Downside at home - I watch their every move, rush outside for 'Big Horribles" those big horse flies. Now they watch MY every move, and come screaming to the barn, whenever I’m outside, if any flies are ‘too much’.

About 25 minutes, and my drive is opposite to morning and afternoon traffic.

Until we brought them home it was a 900 mile trip one way

Mine are 15 mins from my house, about 20 mins from work. I do truck out about 1 hr 20 mins for lessons though.

Because I live in a city and commute out to the barn, it will sometimes take me an hour and a half after work to drive the 20 miles. On a weekend, it’s typically 30-35 without traffic. I miss having him 10 minutes away, the drive is killing me and I’ve become “that owner” who won’t drive out if it’s raining because the traffic is so much worse and there’s no indoor at this farm. Never thought I’d be “that owner” but I guess we all change hats at some point!
