20K variable grand prix in Tucson
Variable?
only 4 in jump off - three were same rider
12 or 13 starts
about how much does each rider get? How far down do they go
in giving money out?

It varies per show/class and would be listed in the Prize list.
It doesn’t necessarily matter if only 4 made the jump off: if there is prize money to 5th or lower, then prize money will be given to the horses with the lease faults in the first round.
Variable means the prize money distributed will be based on the number of entries. Prize list will specify. Usually 1st place gets about 30%, 2nd gets about 22%, etc.
thanks guys. we looked at the grand prix for feb of this year. Same guy won (ikast?) and he got about 7K. So that gives me a general idea. As I am just learning, when you say it’s a 20K GP, my first thought is that he gets 20K LOL
His horses were small as sj goes but they looked good to me…
Generally, prize money in a prix goes from ~ 30% to first place down to just covering the entry fee for 10th-12th (in a national standard class). Since a 20k prix isn’t a national standard class, it can vary and may only pay down to 10th, or 8th, or whatever.
I’d expect that the winner of a 20k would get $6000, as when you win a 10k, you get 3000 and you get 4500 for winning a 15k.
The number of horses in the jump off would not matter; prize money must be determined beforehand and posted in the prize list.
