How long does it take to get a final, written PPE report?

I am waiting to get the final medical PPE report from the vet before I buy the horse, and I was considering trying to get a second opinion on some x-rays taken at the PPE but that’s now out the window probably.

I wasn’t present for the exam, the vet told me everything over the phone but she didn’t actually give me the specific number of the flexion scores and whatnot, and I feel like I just want to be 100% sure of what that is before I say yes to the horse!!! It’s been three days and everyone’s waiting on my decision… meanwhile I’m trying not to blow this vet up!!! I have emailed and texted her, trying to limit my follow-ups to one per day…

I am also keeping in mind that I have no idea what traumatic things she’s been having to deal with this week and my silly little PPE does not take priority over other people’s horse health emergencies… but… does it normally take this long? Do people just buy the horse without reading the report?? I’m going insane

I’ve never had it take more than a few days. 2 or so.

Maybe just send the vet an email asking when she thinks it will be done?

@Lunabear1988 I emailed her once and then texted her once, just edited my post to add that info hahaha. I guess this is just more of a vent than anything else :frowning:

Three days does seem like a long time. is this a one person vet clinic? I have usually had a report by the next business day. The vet types their notes that night, and the office puts it together with the x-rays the next day. Are they waiting on bloodwork perhaps?

Not a lot you can do about it though unfortunately: hopefully the seller is understanding and you get your report soon! Maybe consider calling first thing before they get on the road?

Ugh. I feel your pain. It took me a week and two calls to get the written report from my horse’s recent lameness exam. And this was a large clinic, not a 1-person practice.

@CHT no it’s actually a huge vet clinic! but it’s one of the only ones in that area, so i actually had a lot of trouble even scheduling the appointment to begin with, but I had no other options without hauling out somewhere.

Are you contacting the vet or the clinic? It sounds like you are contacting the specific vet that did the exam. Try calling the clinic during business hours and asking what the status of your report is. The office staff (since you say it is a big clinic, I am assuming there is some office staff) will take care of chasing it down for you.

Update, she sent the report last night so I am done flipping out

I’m not sure I’ve ever had a written report for any horse I’ve ever purchased…

Mine is immediate as he writes as he goes. He also lets me know what we can live with and what we can’t, for the job.

Glad you got the report, finally. If I ever had a PPE done I would want written proof too.
