Wow, well I’ve been at this most of my life and I generally keep 4-6 schooling breeches on hand and 2-3 show breeches. I tend to go over board on tack more than clothing.
Oh I don’t even want to count. I probably have 4 pairs of show breeches, I didn’t buy them all - some were given to me.
Maybe 15 schooling breeches, but they’re different weights. 5 for summer, 5 for spring/fall, 5 for winter.
The important question isn’t how many do you own but rather how many do you wear. I own a lot, purchased in the never-ending quest to find tights and breeches that fit well, are comfortable, have the right amount of stretch in the right places, and have useful pockets. But I actually wear the same 3 pairs of tights and 2 pairs of breeches over and over again and re-purchase them when they get too worn.
I have two beige for show. Then three pairs of winter tights and five pairs of regular weight breeches or tights for the rest of the year. So 10 total.
Show - 2 pairs of white breeches. Are worn during the show class and then put scrubs on over top. They last years.
Schooling - 3 pairs blue/navy tights. Tend to last 2 years and they are cut up for gardening ties.
I have around 18 pair of schooling breeches, different weights for weather. 6 lightweight, 6 mid weight, 4 heavy, 2 pair that are silicone that I wear for chores.
I have 1-2 pairs that could be considered show breeches, but I don’t show and use them on nice lesson days.
I think I have 3 - 4 pairs of white breeches - 2 that I use regularly - for shows.
I have probably 6 - 8 pairs of daily schooling breeches (a couple of which are getting thin/holey and need to be retired, so some of those are replacements for their anticipated demise), plus 2 pairs of winter breeches.
I think I have 1 pair of white breeches. They’re older but surviving with no major stains.
Schooling I have probably 7 or 8 in various stages of decay. I only have 3 that I actually enjoy wearing so those are in much worse shape than the others but I keep telling myself no new breeches until the others are truly dead.
I think I have 3? Show breeches. Let’s see, I know I have an unworn set of white is got an sale + same for a pair of tans and then I think 1-2 not quite tan but I like the shade that I use for showing too.
For schooling I thought “oh I don’t have that many” then read the comment about winter breeches and was reminded those count too I think I have 5-6 pair of winter breeches (RIP to my Noble Outfitters that are dying a slow death but I won’t retire as they don’t make them anymore and they are the most comfy). Then I have 4-5 sets of FreeRides and 4-5 sets of Aqua X breeches. All for being down to one mostly retired, currently unrideable horse. Oy
You all are so disciplined! I honestly cannot even count how many I have. But I’m older and tend not to throw things out. I have the small sizes, for when I’m fit. I have the larger sizes for when I’m NOT so fit. And I have the in-between sizes. I have a pile to try to sell, and several bins full. I’m embarrassed.
you have enough!
I don’t want to count. I know it’s a smaller number compared to athletic tops … I have 4 seasons worth, definitely. And probably something like 5-10 pairs that fit into the winter/spring category and 10+ pairs in the summer/fall category (the indoor stays warm into the fall and cool into the spring). I did sell at least 10 pairs this summer if that counts for something… but I still have too many!
I have 3 pairs of show breeches. … sounds reasonable until I tell you that I’ve never shown before and I have only ever participated in one “big” (for me) weekend clinic. But another one is coming up in a couple weeks!!
I have a retail therapy problem.
Ugh same. I’m even more embarrassed because I don’t even ride h/j or dressage, just pleasure in western saddle on a Walking Horse my most recent purchases were $20 Horze ones from Chick’s this summer. I can’t pass up a good bargain.
I’m very fortunate that, by and large, my weight remains consistent. So I still have, and can fit into, my old breeches from about 2010. And they’re my favourite custom pikeurs (white but with a dove grey full seat) so I save them for special occasions like the occasional jumping show.
I was actually just saying to a friend today, my favourite ‘wear 3 times per week’ breeches are a pair of black sparkly full seat horze breeches. Probably the first pair I bought from them, full seats with the new dangled grip technology on them… and those buggers are probably 8+ years old now, still rocking their two side pockets, barely faded and spring back to brand new shape with every wash.
So yes … I have too many breeches because I love them all and they won’t give up the ghost to give me a chance to throw them out!
I have 2 pairs of show breeches, but I haven’t shown in 10 years, and I doubt they fit me.
Summer tights: 5 pairs, 1 of which needs to go.
Spring/fall breeches: 3 pairs, one has never been worn but is the same size as the others
Winter tights: 4 pairs. The ones I bought last winter are a reflection of every way that Kerrits has changed for the worse.
Ummmmm…more than I should probably admit to owning I just put them all away when I got to Florida for the winter, so I actually know this number. I have 38 pairs of breeches total, 6 show tans, 3 show whites, and the rest are schooling pants. That said, there is not a single pair in my closet for which I paid full price. Tack Shack in Ocala has the most incredible clearance room and I have a bit of a problem stopping myself from picking up a pair or two anytime I find myself there. Whoops! And for anyone wondering, I do actually wear all of them. I have some I like better than others, but every pair of schooling breeches goes into rotation and I definitely make good use of my show pants. To be fair, I’m a complete pigpen, so there are days when I have to get changed at least once!
I’m traveling for work so haven’t counted, but wanted to say thank you to everyone who has normalized the large breech section of my closet!
