How many pairs?

2 fleece-lined pairs for winter
2 lightweight tights for summer
1 full seat for those “loaded for bear” rides
3 all-purpose pairs
1 potential show pair for when I’m braver
3 aspirational pairs found in the bottom of a trunk that fit me in high school, lo these many years ago

I ride 3-5 times a week.

3 winter pairs, and probably 10-15 summer pairs although there are some I don’t wear that often (or at all and should probably get rid of)

Are we counting pairs that fit currently? Or also pairs that used to or might fit one day? Asking for a friend…

I wash them when I can’t wipe the dirt off anymore or when they stink. So…no. I don’t wash them every time I wear them unless it’s the heat of summer and I sweat a lot. In winter I wear a lot without washing, unless I’m riding and doing chores in the cold rain. I hate the smell of wet, fermented hay/grain clothes.

This is an important distinction.

Mmm,well let’s see, 2 pairs winter tights 1 pair of winter breeches that actually get worn. Then one pair show breeches, and X number of other breeches.

Thing is I only ride western these days, so once mud season has passed I will just wear my 5 pairs of bootcut jeans in rotation…

I started with 3 pair of winter and 3 pair of regular breeches. Think I’m down to one winter pair and 2 regular pairs as my daughter keeps borrowing them.

I’ve been riding in cheap leggings from Walmart. :woman_shrugging:

Probably about 20?

I have about 12 pairs of Piper Knit breeches that are my everyday breeches. That allows me to wear a pair each day for six days, then I do a load and air dry them while I’m starting in on the other set of six. When I was riding one horse I’d typically wear them two days, but now I’m riding two, I usually wash after each wear. SmartPak was doing deals like on sale, plus buy 2, get one free, so most of these cost between $20 and $50.

Also have 2 more pairs of the knits for show/clincs, another pair of white breeches, a few pairs of tights, pair of winter breeches, and just got a cute pair of PS Sweden breeches that I’ll probably save for lessons and clinics. I still want to get a pair in denim, but I’m trying not to go down the rabbit hole of different breeches. I like having many of the same fit and seat type.

4 general purpose pairs

2 pairs of super stretchy riding tights for days after holidays when I ate too much, am on my period, or otherwise feeling too bloated for a real waistband or too grumpy to exist.

2 pairs of light colored show breeches

I ride 3-4 days per week.

My favorites at the moment are HR Farm breeches. They’re a mid-rise so holds in some of the chub and seem to fit and look nice enough (at least at first) for the show ring. The price can’t be beat - less than $50 on Amazon for full seats.

Yup, total sense. I’m also in the ballpark, although I think less now because I’ve been purging a ton lately :yum:

oh gee…more than 10 less than 20…
but, i also have a lot of leggins and also yoga pants i ride in that i prefer. Breeches are too binding
Not as many breeches as saddle pads.
Nor as many as whips/crops

4 pairs of winter tights
1 pair schooling tights
3 pairs for showing - 1 white, 1 tan, 1 light grey
8 pairs of Pipers in different colors (got a little carried away with sales)

I really want a couple of pairs for summer that are lighter weight than the Pipers, but find it hard to justify given how many I already have.

Three. But only one fits.

My horse is retired, so I’ve been holding onto the show breeches in the off chance someone needs me to fill a class. I couldn’t justify replacing them if I sold them and that would leave me on my theoretical catch ride wearing slate blue. The other pair is fleece lined so presuming they still don’t fit next fall they’ll go up on eBay then.

I could do with another pair but the “not fitting” part is a problem. I don’t see a good reason to pay another $200 for Sarafinas when, see above, the horse is retired.

So instead I do laundry.

Goodness, NO! I hardly ever wash breeches. Washing does a real number on the leather.

OMG - no way I am counting. If I added up all of the following it would be terrifying: winter schooling; cooler weather showing; normal schooling; normal showing; summer weight schooling; summer weight showing; ones that are too big (have to keep them in case of weight gain due to too many snackcidents); and ones that are a little snug (have to keep them because you just know one day you will lose those 8 pounds).

Two pairs (knit/fleece and cords) for winter
Two pairs of tights for summer
Two pairs for spring/fall (Tuffrider Ribbed)

I don’t show, only school. Ride 3-5 times a week and usually wash weekly. None are light colored although I love tan or beige but they show the dirt. I have smoke blue ones for each of the three seasons and I enjoy looking halfway decent and color coordinated when I ride.

I’ve 10
5 for summers
5 for winters
That’s it
