Twice, morning and night. Can’t do free choice.
Three larger dogs, all are on once a day and have been for years. Vet approved I would never free feed my dogs and even my cat has a monitored amount. I am picky about knowing who is eating and how much. My mom does it differently. Her two small dogs have free range but they don’t eat quite as much as my heifers!
We feed our 3 (a pyr mix and 2 hound mixes) formally once a day in the evening (dry food mixed with either cooked lean ground turkey or grilled chicken), but they have access to dry food all day. (and of course, treats (; )
I feed mine twice a day - breakfast and dinner. He won’t let me forget! Our neighbor feeds her two dogs once a day in the evenings only. They don’t feel like they are missing out on “breakfast”, but they do really look forward to their dinner.
Twice a day.
Mine would eat forever if I free fed I think, so that isn’t an option. She eats her food in about 30 seconds flat and happily eats another meal the same way if she cons someone into thinking I forgot.
Chihuahua & Pibby Mix
2x a day dry food. Lots of bites of human food each day. The Chi will only take meats & chips, the pibby will eat literally anything - except sprouts. A big no on sprouts.
Twice a day, My 120lb GSD would be a 150lb GSD if I left food out in a bowl for him all day lol
Twice a day, plus several biscuits throughout the day (when coming inside or being put away when I leave the house). Neither of my dogs is a free choice candidate.
Morning - measured amt. of dry they pick on all day long.
Evening - measured amt. of dry mixed w/chicken & rice canned. Sometimes I toss in extra 1/2 c. of boiled chicken & rice from stove to keep it interesting.
No people food unless it’s the rare few bites of washed beef or chicken to remove seasoning or breading.
This for boxer & springer spaniel.
chi cross - 11 lbs - twice a day, 1/4cup each time. he gets a few pieces of kibble each time I crate him.
Twice a day, and I try to have dinner by 4:00 p.m.
Depends on the day.
Tracking days they get their food on the track(s), so no other food.
Training days they may get a handful of kibble in the morning, but again they get their bulk of their food throughout the training sessions/day. If needed, they’ll get an extra meal in the evening.
Off days they get fed am & pm. plus varies treats/chew bones during the day.
90lb Aussie/Bernese cross gets 4 cups/day of dry food mixed with water.
She inhales her food so we split it up a cup at a time.
One in the morning after our run, the second before I leave for work, the third when either myself or SO get home from work, and the last one when we get home from the barn.
AM and PM. If I tried to free feed, I’d have grossly obese critters. I prefer a set schedule anyway because pets in the same home aren’t always on the same foods. Plus, it’s my first indication that something is NQR if someone isn’t eating like expected.
Ours have automatic feeders. We have their daily amount split into 3 feedings. They also get a little bit of people food at dinner (licking the plates) and treats at bedtime.
Medium size poodle - I fill her feed bowl with quality dry food once a day and let her have it free choice. No people food. Cat food is off limit in a different room. She gets a few treats when teaching her tricks, a couple “chew sticks” per day to keep her busy when I am not here.
I’m amazed by how many of you free feed with success. I would have an 80lb dog weighing 120 in no time like that. I’ve never had a dog I could just leave food out for. LOL
Three adult toys are fed twice a day. At 6-6:30 a.m and 5:00 p.m. With a few milk bones throughout the day as a reward for good behaviour. They’re all eager eaters.

Me neither; and I only know of one of my breed that might be ok with free feeding.
Although on a breed group on Facebook people will comment that they free-feed, and sometimes they are fat. I’ve had to restrain my comments more than once (as such comments are not encouraged in that group.) There are also people that say “the standard says between 30-40lbs, and she weighs 38 so I think she’s fine.” Ugh.
I have always fed 2x a day except with little puppies, who get fed 3x day.

When we had toy poodles we always free fed basically, they’d pick all day.
First Cocker and Boxer were hoovers, they ate twice a day.
We feed this Cocker twice a day, but he tends to leave half of his breakfast and has himself a lunch
