I’m just curious how many times you feed your dogs? I have a formal feeding twice a day and they have access to dry food whenever they want, but, they almost never eat it. They do, of course, sneak wet cat food whenever they feel the spirit move them which is a no no. Just curious what other people do.
I feed twice a day.
twice a day.
My older poodle, once a day
My 6 month old pom, 2-3 times a day (he doesn’t particularly like eating so sometimes he eat sometimes, and he’ll take forever to eat if he does so I don’t have structured feed times) He should be eating at least 3 times a day due to his size to make sure he can’t become hypoglycaemic.
Twice/day with only training treats and the occasional scatter of shredded cheese in between

Don’t you hate that! My little girl Chi went through a finicky stage for about three days, but, now she is back to twirling around when I feed her thank goodness.

The dog food bowls are always full of good quality dry dog food. They share a lot of our food as we eat throughout the day
Twice a day, dry kibble only, no people food.
Training treats if training, and a tiny piece of treat when crating (Pupperoni - makes them race for their crates when I say bedtime, even if the middle of the day!)
Two times a day, plus her busy bone treat mid day. She eats kibble and green beans for meals. No other people food due to elevated pancreas enzymes.
Maggie and Tucker (spayed Pembroke corgis) get a half cup dry in the morning, about the same mixed with wet food in the evening, and their “dessert” (biscuits) when they come in at night. At my house the last cookie is in my room when we’ve gone to bed, at my parents’ it’s when Maggie goes in her crate for the night, so they know it’s time to go to bed. And the occasional nibble (a bit of crust from my toast, a broken cracker or taco chip, etc.) Enough to make them think they’re ‘sharing’. Weirdly the latest thing has been oranges–apparently even dogs like Clementines. They want a segment if I’m eating one.
AM breakfast
something smeared on a bone as I am leaving the house (little bit of cat food, peanut butter, etc.)
Dinner around 6
nighttime bully stick for 20-40 minutes
a few bites of whatever I’m eating. By whatever I’m eating I truly mean whatever. He will eat doughnut holes, baked kale, pasta, etc. My animals are garbage disposals.
If we hike (2-3 days a week) he also gets a dehydrated stella and chewy puck.
In total he eats way more than he should for a 17 lb dog but he maintains his weight beautifully As he ages I am sure I’ll need to cut back a bit.
Breakfast is kibble with water added and usually 1/3-1/2 of a banana that is part of my breakfast. Then a (frozen) kong with peanut butter when I leave for work. Dinner is more kibble with water added. And a small handful of dry kibble right before bed.
If we’re off farm sitting, then she won’t get her bedtime snack.
For my adult dogs (28 -36lbs) morning and evening meals. Food is down for 15 minutes. If any is left at the end of that time, it gets picked up and put away. No food is left down in between meals.
.
82 pound Dobe … 2 cups kibble with water morning & evening. Some people food treats at dinner.
Once a day, in the evening. Our farm dog gets a cup of good quality dry food and some wet food thrown in and mixed. She also gets treats a few times a day and in the morning after we come in from the barn and she has patrolled around the parameter of the fence line.
I feed my dogs three times per day–breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
I free feed mine kibble. They usually eat 1 - 2 times a day. But also choose when not to eat. Neither are over weight. I give lots of things for them to chew on. So they have variety in their diet.
They also get any leftover meat and bones after dinner.
Technically, twice a day. But I have a finicky eater who isn’t terribly hungry in the morning, so I top off her dry food for the day, which she may or may not pick at. Then, she gets dinner in the evening. Everyone (the cats included) get a little canned food, plus she gets her fish oil and Cosequin. I have tried giving her canned food in the am (hoping to entice her to eat), but she is inconsistent and I hate leaving wet food to sit…and I hate wasting it!
She’s funny, though. On a morning like today, when I leave by 7:15ish for work, she won’t eat. I can barely get her out of bed, let alone to eat (she also will refuse treats and other delicacies if I’m leaving…brat). There’s a good chance she’ll snack when I get home around 3, especially if I snack. She almost will always eat if I work late, or if I’m off, but, she’s like me, and prefers brunch to breakfast
I have 2 dogs. An 8 yr old toy breed and a 7 mth old Coonhound X.
Older dog gets free fed, for the most part. I put out his food in the AM and he picks at it all day. I tried feeding him and then picking up the food and he ends up bolting his food and having issues.
Puppy gets fed 2X a day. He’ll eat as much as I put out, so free feeding is not an option for him.
Both dogs get occasional people food, leftovers from kiddos plate mostly. Little dog also gets to clean up the wet food that the cat doesn’t eat.
