Just throwing another spice in the recipe: I know our farriers here had trouble getting name-brand Vettec this summer and the generic substitutes just didn’t hold. Fell out like OP described within a few days. But our guys always came back to fix it @ no charge and tracked down the real thing ASAP.
Agree that the liquid products were not only not allowed to completely set before the hoof was allowed to touch the ground but also the horse may not have been kept in a stall with shavings the required 8 hours of curing/drying time.
I had aluminum Natural balance shoes glued on and Equi Thane CS poured into the front hooves, two weeks ago. Everything is still rock solid and the 1,150 Tennessee Walker goes out on six rough and hilly acres every day:)
it took 1-3/4 tubes of Equi Thane (by VetTec) to completely fill both hooves to be level with the edges of the shoes. Possibly not enough filler was used on the Op’s pony?
My farrier charged me close to cost for the materials which was $144, and $40 to trim the horse all the way around, which is her standard fee:)
