Today I am going to tell you about how you should select the right kind of vintage fabric for the sewing and what you should consider at the time of buying such an amazing piece of garment.

Fabric Hunting

One of the hardest things any sewer can go through is to find the new and right kind of vintage fabric from the store. In most of the cases, the vintage fabric is not in a good condition and has stains which require a lot of efforts to eliminate. Fabric hunting is not that easy task especially when you are looking for the vintage and for the preparation of something special.

The first step everyone should follow at the time of buying vintage fabric is to make sure that you are checking it properly. Open the folds of the fabric and check for any stain or tearing. If the fabric is in excellent condition then buy it but donā€™t compromise on the condition as it can mess with your whole hard work and you are going to feel frustrated in the end.

Cleaning

After having a vintage fabric in your sewing space, now you have to put a little effort into cleaning it and removing the odor from it. Vacuum the fabric to remove the dust from the fibers or you can wash it simply. After buying you can also put the fabric into the sunlight as it will eliminate the smell from the fabric and you can sew it then in peace.

At the time of washing the vintage fabric, donā€™t use chemicals or anything which can ruin the color of the vintage fabric. Due to the old age of the fabric, anything can fade the color and can damage it. So many cleaners with strong chemical agents can eliminate the color of the fabric and it will look worse. If you have invested a great amount in fabric then go for the professional cleaning as they know how to clean the vintage fabric without damaging it.

Post-Sewing Care

Once you are done with the whole cleaning process of the vintage fabric and done with the pre-washing, now itā€™s time to move to the sewing machine. If you are something big which includes metal zippers and other things for the home dƃĀ©cor then you should have the best heavy duty sewing machine for home use. Another thing which should be in your mind after the sewing and at the time of cleaning or washing it is to wash it by hand or get a help of dry cleaners. Never use a too hot iron on the vintage fabric as it can damage the color as well as the fiber of the fabric. To save your vintage fabric from the damage, you should care about detergent when washing.

Auction

Many people out there have a limited budget when it comes to shopping because of course everyone has duties to fulfill and we canā€™t just spend the whole salary at the vintage fabric shopping. The best way to be in the budget and to shop the desired vintage fabric to know about the auctions. So many homes and stores who are about to close the work invite people for the auction.

In an auction, you can witness the number of vintage fabrics and can bid on them. Who know that you can have a few pieces of fabric in a budget instead of having just one from the store. You can also try the old stock but check it by stretching it to find any hole or stain. You can repair it anytime but then whatā€™s the use of spending money on such things?

Hide The Weakness

If you have to make the project from the vintage fabric at any cost and you are ready to even hide the stains or weakness of the fabric then buy it. Now the next step sewer has to do to change it into the new one is to get some laces and buttons. You can apply applique or something to the place where you can see the stain or something is wrong.

If the vintage fabric is damage from some corner then you can also repair it with the help of needle and thread. Keep blending the base of the fabric with the thread in a way that it seems like one thing. You can also sew some buttons and can do little embroidery to save the place from further damage and now your project must be ready to exhibit.

Welcome to driving, Avismeyer. If I were you, Iā€™d go to the ADS website (www.americandrivingsociety.org) and contact your regional director, Pam Miller-Mitchell. She should be able to help you find driving clubs (a great resource!) and trainers in your area.
