How to clean "gummy" saddle after using Acavallo Seat Saver?

I took my Acavallo Seat Saver off, and now my saddle has some “gumminess” to it. Does anyone have any idea how to clean this? Glycerine saddle cleaner did not remove it. I use the Seat Saver because of a tailbone issue.

I’ve found Kirk’s castile soap removes lots of gunky residues, but I’ve never tried it on seat saver residue.

I have an Acavallo, too. Did some of the gel material rub off onto the leather?

So the bottom side, that “gel” side just rubbed the leather. You can even see the honeycomb pattern on the leather.

I never had this specific challenge, but the toughest tack cleaner I’ve tried is the Belvoir Step 1 in the spray bottle. It is very drying though, so you’ll have to condition after.

Maybe try Goof Off on a small inconspicuous area?

Glycerin, Castile, dawn (try in order). Then condition! Mine came off with some scrubbing - left that saddle cover on for a good 6-8 months :flushed:

That’s the same one I have. I wondered if, at some point, some of the gel would transfer to the saddle seat, but had not heard any complaints about it so figured it was a non-issue. Thank you for the heads up, and let us know how the cleaning goes!

I was seriously considering this. I may test it. Thanks!

When I get a moment, I’ll take a photo of my saddle so you can see it.

Thank you!

Here is the saddle after using Voltaire Glycerine saddle cleaner.

I used the Goo Gone (or whatever it is called). As I was making my first swipe I read the bottle and it said do not use on leather. Oops. But I think it actually helped, and I haven’t seen any damage…yet! I will take another picture tomorrow to compare.

Have you reached out to the manufacturer of the seat saver, asking them how to get their goo off your saddle? They might have some ideas.

I really need to do that! I looked them up to see how to clean the pad, but not how to clean the saddle.

Current after the Goo Gone.

Wow! The Goo Gone made a big difference! I’ve used it a lot but never on leather. Good to know!

Yes, I was worried after reading the bottle that stated not to use it on leather. :flushed: But it seemed to work fine!

HorseTech.com has a very nice goat’s milk saddle soap they make themselves. I used it on my 1998 Albion special order dressage saddle to keep it clean. It worked nicely and it was not necessary to use conditioner other then a few locations that show more wear. The saddle looks as good now as it did 20+ year ago.
