How to find good trails in my area (Yelm, WA)

Hi there,
I recently moved my 2 mares to my own property and would like to find out more about local trails, specifically ones that are more off-the-beaten-path and so not online. I don’t know any horse people in the area yet and am wondering if anyone has info about this or ideas about how to get that info.
Thanks

The JBLM/Fort Lewis training areas are good, you just have to go to the post and get a pass.

Here’s a link to the main Trail Meister site:

One of the best ways I’ve found to scope out new trails is to look up the ride schedules of local trail clubs. I don’t actually ride with them ( I don’t do group rides) but if they have their locations on the schedule, you can get a great list of places to check into

I’d look online for fb groups on trail riding, back country riding, or horse camping in your region, join the groups, and see where folks are going.

I’d also look at big topographical maps of the area, especially for wilderness parks.

I’d see where the dude strings operate.

I don’t live there any more but. Woodbrook I believe or wood something hunt club off I5 exit 123 East the JBLM logistic ecit. Go left at the traffic circle. A mile or so down the road to the right. JBLM can be a hassle. There are miles of no hassle trail through the Nisqually reservation, everything from canter in a group gravel logging trails to single file go slow up a cliff. There is a major high tension wire through the reservation with trail head parking on the road, but I don’t remember names. There use to be a barn with a nice arena just west of Yelm by the canal that allowed haul in and access to the Nisqually trails. I will get google maps out and see if I can be more specific. Lots of rustic trail in the area. Hope you get to see it soon.

Do an online search for the Back Country Horsemen of Washington. They would be a good source for trails, and to find people who actively ride.

This^^ The Tahoma chapter of BCHW or the Nisqually chapter would be the closest to you.
