How to get forelock to grow..favorite products?

My mustang mare has rubbed her forelock out. Literally in just a matter of days. It was so long and pretty, I’m soooo upset! What products do you use, or what do you supplement with to encourage hair growth? Is there anything I can do aside from keeping a fly mask on her that can prevent her rubbing it out as it grows? She gets fly sprayed daily, groomed, she has no skin conditions going on that I can see, not even dry/flaky mane or tail. Ideas?

The funny thing is I told my daughter I’m going to steal half of her geldings forelock and put it on my mare  He has enough for six horses!

Adding flax to grain helps hair growth. I use Cowboy Magic to help with mane growth and it also seems to help with itchiness caused by dry skin.

I tried all the usual things, Only thing that worked for my poor fellow was to stop trimming a bridle path and do a comb-forward/. He had an amazing tail, a nice thick mane and no forelock. For shows I would use a slightly thicker yarn. Thankfully as a bay, black yarn was an easy match

Fresh Ground Flax and Remission in feed. The pink conditioner daily and wash with E3 Hair Growth shampoo every other day. The shampoo worked GREAT for my gelding and we were having a hard time growing mane.

Permoxin brushed on daily. It stops the itch, which stops the scratch, which stops the itch. A side affect of using it is a long mane and tail.

Thank you Dani and SuzieQNutter. She currently gets fresh ground flax daily in her feed. I will look into the shampoo and the Remission. SuzieQNutter, yes, I need to stop the itch so she doesn’t continue to rub it out as it starts to grow. Thank you for the advice!

The only product I know of is time. If she grew it long before , it will be long again because it is in her genes . Eliminate the place to rub it out and in a few months( i bet you) it will grow…

What are you using for a fly mask? The first Cashel I bought was off within an hour. Put it back on, same results. I called Cashel and they advised cutting off a small piece of fringe that was added to appease people who said it would keep the flies from going up the face. That did nothing and they dropped it. On the second call they suggested cutting the ears off. That solved the problem. He doesn’t care about a riding mask with ears, but he does care about his fly mask. That saves about $3 per mask.

He doesn’t have a forelock. He has a small knot of very fine, very short hairs between his ears where most horses have their forelock. I’ve read that it helps with the flies but I have never seen that. :wink. Now that his winter coat has grown in the kids love his teddy bear ears.
