How to get my saddle more sticky?

I’m buying a used saddle that is dry and slippery. I’ve never owned a saddle before, so I’m not 100% sure what to do. So far I’m thinking that I’m going to buying conditioner (either Farnam or Lexol? which is better?), and saddle soap that I am going to use regularly. Maybe lederbalsam too? I want it to be soft and kind of sticky if that makes sense? Does anyone have tips or advice? Thanks!

Saddle soap (the glycerin bar type) and an almost dry sponge… apply to saddle before your ride… it gives a bit of stick to the smooth leather!

Stubben Hamanol. I think it helps protect the leather to some extent, too.

Use Horsemen’s One Step when you clean your tack and try saddle tight. I haven’t used it in years, but when I had slippery tall boots it really helped.

Soft and sticky usually comes from good quality leather. Just a heads up- If you don’t have good quality leather to begin with it’s not going to do a full 180 no matter how much oiling, conditioning and what not that you do. That being said, good cleaning and lots of conditioning can help. Roll the flaps up and down and under in order to help them soften as well. I will wipe saddles down with murphy’s oil (I like the spray) right before I ride sometimes, which I find makes them a little more tacky. Horseman’s one step I think helps with the sticky too, but I feel like it builds up a lot over time and leaves a weird residue. If you clean and oil and nothing helps, just use some saddle tight when needed. it will leave goop on your saddle and it doesn’t do anything to help the leather, but it will make it more sticky for sure!
