How to get the rainbow look on used horseshoes?

I was wondering if anyone knows how to get the rainbow look on used horseshoes? My husband welds them into things and some would look great with that multi-color ‘rainbow’ effect. I was once told that you have to heat the shoes to get it. Does anyone do any DIY projects and know how? Sorry if this is confusing, its hard to explain. Mainly instead on the shoes looking like polished steel they are a mix of purple, orange, and blue. Thanks!

are you referring to “tempering” ???

Differentially tempered steel. The various colors produced indicate the temperature to which the steel was heated. Light-straw indicates 204 °C (399 °F) and light blue indicates 337 °C (639 °F).

My 16 year old son is getting into the craft of blacksmithing and if you can believe it- this color chart was sitting open in one of the tabs of my computer this morning:
