How to give tumeric to an arthritic goat?

It’s supposed to be an anti-inflammatory. I have two tall Nubians, both of whom are about 4 years old now & both have some arthritis in their knees. I want to try the tumeric because I don’t think they could effectively process the traditional stuff.

If you can direct me to a You Tube about this, or any kind of a tutorial, I’d appreciate it.

Thanks.

I take mine in capsule form. I’d think that would be easy to hide in a treat. What do they like? If they like, say, Twizzlers… You could stick a capsule down the hollow middle.

I use bananas for my goats. They LOVE them and it is easy to hide a regular size tablet or whatever. Turmeric comes in a lot of different powder, tablet, and capsulated forms–hard to say for sure if that would work. And I have no idea how on turmeric taste–I would think it would depend on what supplement form you buy. Raw forms might have a strong taste and who knows if a goat would go for it or not. I suspect not. But a lot of them are probably flavored for palatability or formulated to be tasteless if the natural taste is bad. And size probably matters–I can’t see a bite-size banana piece could possibly hide a huge capsule of something that tasted very bad.

According to the Turmeric User group on fb the vet (Dr. Doug English), they feed turmeric to goats. I don’t recall how much but it’s mixed with oil (ie coconut or flax oil) with fresh ground black pepper. The fresh ground pepper is important. Check out the site

I fed it to my dogs per the guidelines given by Dr. Doug English (see website in Pippigirl’s post).

It’s best given if you make it into the “Golden Paste” (recipe on the website), as he’s found it’s most absorbable that way. It has to be kept refrigerated in paste form.

I would just plop it into my dog’s food bowl a.m. and p.m. They gobbled it right up with their food.

Thank You All. I’ll report back when I manage to: A. Get it down their throats. and B. See any results.
