Schooling show today on concrete that is the ground in the midwest. I brought my TB home and packed his feet with magic cushion and then put the foot in shavings to pack it in. If one really wanted it to stay in till the morning, do you just vet wrap the hoof? Put a sock over it?

I wrap with vet wrap. I personally prefer Rebound over MC. I also really like the green Epsom salt poultice too. But with all of it I wrap their foot with vet wrap.
Gorilla tape. I had a “tape shoe” last two days on SoCal “concrete”.
For magic cushion I layer a piece of brown paper over it (I tear it out from the inside of a feed bag or use a grocery store bag) and then I wrap with vet wrap.
I use Rebound, although it went all crystal-like recently and had to throw out a good amount of it.
Usually shavings should keep it in, BUT if you want to make sure, vet wrap is the way to go.
I prefer MC because I wasn’t able to get Rebound to stay in
As long as the foot is dry, I rarely have an issue with it staying in the foot just packed with shavings on top - if I really want to be sure though I will use a piece of brown paper then duct tape it.
Brown paper and duct tape or vet wrap. Good idea.
I’ve had success with just magic cushion and shavings. I’ve schooled, packed feet and turned out and the magic cushion was still there 2 days later when I came back out.
I always had luck with a diaper and vet wrap/Duct tape.
Much easier with a bit of cushion and separation from the ground.

I’m green with envy. Mine don’t keep their shoes on let alone foot packing in. Dry feet, wet feet, shavings etc…doesn’t matter. Half the time it falls out in less then 10 minutes unless I wrap with vet wrap.

Same here, if the foot is shod just packing over the top of MC with shavings does the trick for me even if they’re turned out - it stays packed in nicely for multiple days if I don’t pick it out myself. If they’re barefoot though I’ll vet wrap over the top…usually that will keep it in for at least 12 hours, maybe a day.
Not to derail too much, but I’ve never heard of Rebound. Any pros/cons over MC? I’ve got a gelding with pedal osteitis so I’m always looking for ways to keep him from getting sore.

This, 110%.
Make sure the sole and frog are dry, that MC will stay in there. Brown paper and duct tape for insurance.
At the end of an event I’ll stick the horse on the trailer first and then put the MC in and layer shavings on top. (Not entirely pony club safe when I’m doing this from the front of my straight load, but otherwise the stuff gets all over my ramp!) That way he’s standing for at least an hour with the packing/shavings in and it tends to stay in longer once we get home and I turn him out.

I found Rebound better at drawing out sorness and less messy than MC although it can still be messy. If it isn’t too hot, it stayed in better for me than MC but honestly, neither stay in well without me wrapping their feet. Their foot does need to be dry to stay in…and your hands (with gloves) wet.
I also liked that Rebound was invented by an eventer…

Interesting, I’ll have to give it a try when I run out of MC. Or when the lid finally gets so glued to the tub that I can’t open it, which will probably happen first…
I have some cavallo boots I intended on using for trail riding but found them to be a bit clunky. My mare is barefoot. She came up with an abscess so I did animalintex pad, baby diaper, vet wrap, the boot, hosed it all down, then turned her back out. I wouldn’t want to leave the boots on for days as they are clunky and could eventually rub but I wanted to get her out and keep her hoof packed.

Your horses sound like my horses.
I just wrap the hoof in vet wrap to keep packing in … Until recently I used to put a diaper underneath the vet wrap for extra padding in special situations, such as a horse that pulled a shoe and is sore. However, my farrier said that the manufacturer of Magic Cushion told him it’s better not to use a diaper with it, as the “absorbency” of the diaper will draw out some of the moisture from the packing itself and make it less effective … So now it’s just plain old vet wrap (and possibly duct tape over top) for all of them.

ugh - the lid!! the stuff is great but you’d think they could come up with some better designed packaging!! (don’t ever try the single packs - they are the worst to use:)) no matter how careful I am, how many layers of plastic gloves I wear I tend to get it all over myself - where it remains for days - with every application:)

If mine has pulled a shoe and is sore, I like to wrap with animalintex. I think that works the best.
