How to lengthen breastplate straps

I have a breastplate I really like but the two top straps (dee rings to chest) are just a tiny bit too short. I only need an inch or two more on each side. I’ve considered using dee ring savers which would make it a tad longer depending on what kind I get, but would it really make that much of a difference? (Mind you dee savers are probably a good thing to have in any case.) Also would dee savers effect where the stirrup leather lies? I have one of those saddles with the safety bars that flick up and down but I just leave them down. Would the dee ring savers push the stirrup leathers back?

Is there anything else I could do to make the straps longer? I’ve heard of some people rigging up something with an extra leather strap at the top.

I’d really rather not get a new breastplate if there’s something I can do.

See if adding clips gives you enough extra length?

The D-savers shouldn’t really change where your stirrup leathers sit. All the ones I have used fit pretty tightly into the corner of the bars, and don’t seem to displace the leathers.

You also could buy new straps that are longer, assuming your breastplate has “standard” straps that go to the saddle dees. Try contacting Smith-Worthington. They are pretty good about selling “spare parts” and are always happy to measure things while you hold on the phone.

Have Bartville make up a new set for you in the length you need. That’s what I did and it worked perfectly.

If you really only need a couple of inches adding dee savers and snaps will probably do it-- and be better for your saddle (dees) and easier on you (snaps).

lol I was thinking will dee savers make them long enough? or will clips make them long enough? But both together might just do the trick

I use by Dee Savers and clips on mine. Much easier to take on and off. Dee Savers are a good idea anyway and do not push the stirrup leathers back.
