How to paint pipe corral panels?

How would you go about painting these? As in: sanding them first? Using a wire brush to get rid of any rust? Using a special kind of paint?

I’d like to have my non-perimeter fencing more or less match at our new place, but can’t afford to buy everything new, especially when what I already have is in pretty good shape. Most of the existing panels I have are galvanized, if that counts as a color; but there’s the green round pen and some brown panels, too.

Thanks.

its the good old Depends answer… do you want shiny like new or protective coat? if like new get them sand blasted, then primer, then finish coat… If just protection brush off rust, wipe clean the use a painter’s mitt

As for paint we have used Rust-Oleum on our gates and pipe fence, works well fairly easy to deal with, leaves a glossy finish

HOA doesn’t like shine, but is ok with galvanized. IIrc, Rustoleum comes in different finishes. I’ll look tomorrow. Thanks.

I recently used Rustoleum to paint an old green tube gate. For a 12 ft., 7 rail gate, I used one spray can of the flat gray primer and two cans of a shinier variety to finish it off. Before painting, I used a power washer to knock off loose paint and rust.

FWIW, the primer was a very flat finish and true to the color on the cap.

Is there a business near you that sells marine paint? It will last much longer than regular Rust-Oleum, which used to have a warning not to use there product on galvanized metal. Read the labels carefully.

Look for Rust-Oleum Marine Coatings or something similar. Some times the big box stores have it.

Here, the near by prison will sand blast, prime, and paint/powder coat, almost anything metal, very reasonable $. It is an inmate training program. Or maybe look for a trade school?
