How to Pronounce "Beval"?

I know this isn’t an important question, but it’s been bugging me for awhile now. I’ve always read it as “bevel” and pronounced it as such, but I’ve also heard “bev-AHL”, and an article about the closure of the New Canaan store says that Beval gets its name from combining Bev and Al, as in Al the name, together, which is another different pronunciation, and most likely the correct one, but I’ve never heard it pronounced like that before. I guess with a lot of brand names, you just have to guess, but I hate mispronouncing things!

For the definitive answer, you could call Beval at 1-800-524-1036.

If you call the number, will you let us know?

Wouldn’t matter. The new owners have changed so much I doubt they know or care about the original ‘true’ pronunciation.

FWIW, Everyone in my neck of the woods, which has been smack between the N. Salem store and the New Canaan store has always pronounced it like level. Despite the ‘a’ in the 2nd syllable. Anything else was interpreted as being, well, pretentious.

I’ve always pronounced it like bevel, rhymes with level. Sometimes I think people try to make the names sound more foreign and fancy than they actually are.

Beval is an abbreviation of the name Bev Walter, the founder of Beval Saddlery. I have never heard it pronounced differently than “bevel”.

You can always just type: " How do you pronounce X?" into your search bar. You can get audio as well. Some words evolve with local colloquial pronunciations. Sometimes, the root origin is lost overtime. Neither is wrong. Or, is that “neether”?
