How to remove flash?

I found a bridle that I really like but I need to figure out how to remove the flash. Does anyone take the bridle somewhere to get it professionally removed or just use a razor blade and cut it off? I appreciate your help!

Yeah, exacto knife. Never had one professionally removed. Although you can certainly just take the flash off and leave the loop. No one will notice or care.

Yes, what ladyj said. It cuts off very cleanly on the bridles I’ve had. You’d have to be right on top of it to be able to tell, and almost nobody but you sees it from that perspective.

Agree. If you’re SURE you’re never going to need the flash, use a razor blade or similar to cut off the leather loop very close to the cavesson. Guess if you change your mind down the road, you can buy a loop attachment to put on a flash. It doesn’t look quite as tidy as the original that comes on your bridle, but it works…

Box cutter works for this.

I don’t like the loop attachments because they put the noseband lower and never seemed to sit properly. Perhaps they have gotten better nowadays, but the ‘built in’ construction always seemed to work better than the ‘after market’ ones for me.

Box cutter/exacto knife and a steady hand.

And then black shoe polish after! I dabbed a little on the cut ends to make them match my bridle and now you just don’t notice. There’s a slight dent in the noseband padding that you notice up close, but that’s it.

I’ve also dabbed the cut edge carefully with a sharpie, if necessary, but you typically can’t even see it.
