How to stop cat from rubbing on walls?

One of my cats (neutered of course) that is in his late teens likes to rub on the walls and furniture especially door jams. He ends up leaving black marks on the walls and furniture. He is a clean cat and stays indoors most of the time.

Any suggestions on how I can stop him from rubbing? I was hoping for a natural herbal smell that would deter him.

That is what cats do. I am sure your other cats are doing the same but you don’t notice it as much. They make their environment smell like them. Can’t you just clean it off once a week or so?

another thing is to tape up some aluminum foil on the worst corners

but cleaning the corners might be the best suggestion

There used to be a corner thing with little grooming nubs. Ha! Look, I found something similar. At least you can sort of restrict it to one spot they use, which is supposedly easy to clean.
