Too funny. I have no problem with a bow tie. But for some reason I always have problems with a Stock. Mirror or no mirror
I just get my wife to tie for me.
That’s a cheater stock. It also is for showing not actual hunting; where there is a subtle difference in the way the traditional four fold is tied for staff and toffs !

O.K. this is interesting. I have been on horses for 50 years, worn a stock without any adverse comments, observed others out hunting and never knew such subtly existed. Though on thinking about it, hunt staff do sometimes have an alternative tie. Most are the same as everyone else. Rather too many people seem to wrap a cloth around their neck and tie a lump in the middle but American hunting people have always been far better turned out than the British and Irish!
The four fold does make far more sense of the often quoted statement ‘your hunt tie can be used as an emergency bandage’ since there is so much more fabric involved.
So I have looked for ‘How to tie a 4 fold hunting tie’ and the best I can find is still photos http://www.bosleyapparel.com/pdfs/The%20Stock%20Tie.pdf
I think I will continue with my shaped one.
I never could figure out how to do it properly. I’d promise one of my friends I’d buy them a drink at the hunt breakfast afterwards if they’d do it for me.
You don’t need a video. All you need is the mantra “Right over left and under; left over right and under.” That gets you the square knot; then flip the ends over and pin.
I’m terrible at tying a stock. Ive looked at videos, etc. I still suck
I’m with Equibrit on this topic. I’ve been hunting just under 50 years. When I started hunting a 4 fold stock was worn by everyone. Then one started to see shaped ties on a few members, and now, except for the MFH and me, shaped are worn by everyone in our hunt club. Not too long ago, maybe five years ago, a member approached me and told me that she could show me how to properly tie a stock if I wanted to learn. I explained that my four fold was properly tied, but as her eyes glazed over, I gave up. It is far more useful as a bandage or sling than the shaped ties, and has many more pins holding it in place.
