There are 3 holes in a triangle pattern, what is the safest way to tie it, and what kind of a string is best/strongest.
And why do so many saddles use this kind of tie? It seems like all the pressure on the girth is depending on a little piece of string not breaking. TIA.

There’s little stress on the tie string itself, and all is in shear.

Thank you for this link! Big “a-ha” moment for me. I’m that person who always has to know WHY something works before I feel comfortable using it.
All good. There are fancier ties, but this gets the job done. The other ones require special lace pullers etc
Thanks for the replies, I have tried this, but it shifts. There is a more complicated tie were the string goes thru each hole twice I think.
Redo the lacing… really snug it tight. then soak it thoroughly with warm water and let dry. This ‘trains’ the lacing leather to its new shape and job.
