How/where to look up dog pedigrees?

Hi All,
Is there a website where I can look up pedigrees on line?
Or any other good dog websites in general?

Thank you CoTH for this section!!!

You can get them from the AKC but they are not free:

I think $10 for an electronic copy.

Not sure there is any other place to find them…?

Do you know if I got a account with AKC would that give me access to online pedigree searches?

I’m pretty sure you still have to pay for them. Not 100% sure but I think so.

Yes, you still have to pay for the pedigrees.

There are thousands of canine pedigrees listed here: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/

What exactly are you looking for and maybe we can offer better help?

Hi
I am slowly making a transition for showing horses to showing dogs and I’ve been going to as many shows as I can and reading what I can. I have seen dogs that are slightly diferent in in some ways and wanted to start looking at pedigree lines…just as if you would look at horse lines. SO I am really just trying to educate myself the best I can.
Thank you

Depends on the breed–some breeds have their own online databases.

Ridgebacks, for example, have this: http://www.wendelboe.com/searchdog.html

You can find some here: http://www.infodog.com/brag/default.htm

You can usually find pedigrees on the breeders website, if you Google the kennel name prefix of the dogs you are interested in, you should be able to find a website.

Do you have a mentor or mentors in your chosen breed? They could help you w/ bloodlines and which bloodlines produce which characteristics.

What breed are you interested in?

Pawvillage has a lot of pedigrees for a lot of breeds, BUT they rely on individuals to input the pedigrees themselves so they may not always be accurate. Still might be worth a look as people can upload photos as well.

Thank you for the replies!
I have been seriously been doing my “research” in reading and going to shows for about 6 months. The setters mainly the Gordon and English…but I really think I am going to go with the English. They just appeal to me more. So I think I will focus on them.
