I got a sateen one which has the much larger quilting. It is so…average. Nothing about it feels exceptionally high quality compared to my other pads and you can’t even tell it has a sheen except at a very specific angle.

If I wanted a unique color I would try them again with the standard cotton but I tend to stick to very neutral colors so I’d rather go with a stock product from Eskadron or Le Mieux moving forward.

This is truly just an n=1 but I got so excited about this thread that I think I was expecting something unlike any other pad and may have overinflated my expectations.

I feel just okay about mine. I liked being able to get the colors I wanted, but the pad is red and it has white stitching in the quilting that I am not crazy about. Would prefer a color matched thread. The strap for the girth billets is incredibly flimsy and cheap feeling. The cords by the bindings are also just ok. It’s a thicker style pad, a bit stiff, but the underside is nice. It’s not a pad I keep in my regular rotation since I’m not crazy about it.

Maybe it’s more interesting or worthwhile if you get a sheepskin underside or accents, which I don’t need. It’s nice being able to choose your colors I suppose.

I order direct from Mattes because it’s quicker and I don’t have to pay customs (I’m in Europe). I ordered a girth cover from Hufglocken since my existing one ripped somehow and it took like 6 months. Ordered directly from Mattes and it took a few weeks. So not much savings on time or money. Maybe more worth it for US customers.

Bingo.
I was actually a bit surprised that so many people went through the trouble of ordering via Huglocken for just a plain ol’ cotton pad with custom colours. I was excited about the site because I don’t like the extra bulk of a cotton pad + sheepskin pad under my saddle, I like the padding and breathability of sheepskin but the only ā€œcommercially availableā€ full pads with sheepskin were only ever available in all black or all white (and were over $200). Now for less than 200 I can get a fully customized pad in any colour/trim I want, any sheepskin colour I want, in any configuration I want.

I am still waiting on my fuschia/black pad to come, which I will be pairing up with all black patent DSBs for my little black mare. She’s going to look so stunning.

As far as these pads being ā€œaverageā€, I have never felt that way at all, but then I have all cotton ones. And even a year + since I bought my first one (so they’re not looking ā€œnewā€ anymore), I still routinely, like every few weeks, get someone at the barn who stops in their tracks to go ā€œOMG, your pad is gorgeous, where did you get it??ā€.

I am still incredibly happy with all of my pads~! And they’re holding up to regular/frequent use very well, even with the sheepskin directly on my horse all the time.

I agree that the quality is high and noticeable. But I also use cotton.

Here’s my dressage pad I ordered last year and wasn’t able to use it because of shows being cancelled!

Pics don’t do it Justice, the navy sheepskin is just dreamy :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

If you look on their FaceBook (and probably Instagram) there are a lot of photos of actual pads that are a lot more helpful for colors.

Although I haven’t been ordering sheepskin pads, I really appreciate being able to get the Euro cut pads that are long/deep enough for my saddle without swallowing up my 15.2 mare.

Putting together another order - I really want a pad in Petrol but can’t seem to figure out a binding/piping option that really works. /firstworldproblems Might go with Ocean instead. I do have a really nice olive/gold one in my cart, as well as a white one with navy and steel blue (forget the name) to coordinate with my show coat.

Used my new pads last night and the nougat looks great on my lighter chestnut and coordinates with my boots. The black binding and champagne trim really sets it off.

What about orange and petrol? I had a similar colour on my mare the other day with the Lemieux peacock and orange and it was really nice together!

Thanks, I did look on their facebook and instagram, but sometimes the colors don’t have the names associated with them, or they even sometimes seem to have different names altogether :woman_facepalming:, so I can’t keep up lol.

My new one just came yesterday!! I LOVE IT!!! :star_struck: :star_struck: :star_struck:

That is stunning!! My recent order and last one I was waiting for just arrived also and it’s absolutely beautiful! Have to get pics still.

Wow, that is pretty!

I just got updates yesterday on mine, which are still in progress. Waiting not so patiently while using the lovely one I got from see-u-at-x!

What’s everyone’s opinions on the basic cotton pad? Pricing it out, with the 25% discount it’s comparable to Lemieux pricing for their basic cotton pad. Also, for the velcro options, what is the ā€œPM Systemā€ option?

Mine (originally promised for Christmas) arrived in the country about a month ago, but still haven’t cleared customs. Hufglocken has filed a claim, as have I.

Really thinking about getting a Spanish style/shaped pad for my Spanish style dressage saddle. Only because of the custom colors. I’m not amazed by my last pad (cotton) but what do you all think of the sheen or velvet styles? How are they wearing and washing?

I got two of the Sheen pads, so I can’t comment on the straight cotton. I find mine don’t wash up as nicely as my Lemieux pads - although both of them are lighter colours (blush and the kelly green). Overall, I think I will invest in more Lemieux pads vs ordering the Mattes again.

If anyone is interested, I have a wine/burgundy colored mattes pad I ordered a while ago that I’m not using. No sheepskin, it is the velvet texture with a white Mattes logo. It’s beautiful but I don’t love it on my dark horse, tho I’m thinking I may drag it out for a clinic sometime soon now that I’m thinking of it.
I also have a blush one in a very thin quilt that I adore. Also totally plain.

My Equito sheen pads also wash really well. In case you want to add to your collection. Mine looks fab in the Peppermint.

The one I bought from see-u-at-x is the cotton sheen. It’s more substantial than the other ā€œniceā€ dressage pads I have, slightly heavier than the PRI ones, a bit heavier than the custom Wilkers I have for showing. I ordered a plain regular cotton one in December, but it’s still ā€œin production.ā€

Honestly, I’ll be excited to get the ones I’ve ordered, but unless there’s a really enormous sale, I probably won’t order again, because its taken 4 months at this point and still hasn’t shipped, and I’m not sure the pretty color selection is worth the cost and wait time. Also, I only need so many saddle pads. If I want custom colors, I’ll probably go back with Wilkers, whose colors are more limited, but are US-made, and even with custom colors and embroidery showed up in less than a month, and were less than the Mattes ones.
