Huge day today for American 3yo racing

Question: Sometimes you see what looks like a big picture of the winners stables silks in the winners circle on the ground or the name of the race on the track. How do they do that? Thanks.

Softer fractions, a bigger field and a dry track would make life a little tougher for Exaggerator. Still fun to watch!
He does love the mud, but what a move!

And Songbird just continues to amaze…
She impressed me more than any other horse on Saturday. I hope she stays this good. Her mom was precocious too, but never hit the board after April of her 3 yo year.

Any video of the race where the announcer messed up the call (in the Wood memorial)?

The magic of TV graphics editing I suspect…

The Wood was an interesting race. I like how Adventist rallied down the back stretch and topped in for third. Johnny V rode a big trave on Trojan Nation! I love that guy ??

She looks like her, uh … “half-sibling” Rachael Alexandra.
Yes. I KNOW you only use the term: half-sib, when
the foal is out of the same mare, not by the same sire.
But how close is Songbird’s dam to RA’s dam?
They both have that unusual divided star & blaze markings.

Thanks, WMW! Somehow, I think I saw that in person once. I may be mistaken. Maybe it is done with lights?

I’m pretty sure that what you are describing is done via TV graphics editing rather than something actually captured by the camera.

I’ve seem similar watching car races on TV - ads in the corner run outs, lines on the track that really are not painted on the track but shown for TV viewers…

Thanks again, WMW! I must to go pull the covers over my head now. Clueless, eh?

Yes, they are computer generated graphic that you only see watching on TV.
Here’s a replay of the stretch run in last year’s Prix de L’Arc, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIrMbXNMiGY&t=1m6s

You’ll see there are lines going across the course marking the furlong markers and the finish line and the name of the race and the race sponsor too. Only people watching on TV can see those, people at the track just see nice green grass.

In the post parade they usually the have the silks of the horses superimposed on the track.

They are used in other sports too.

Thanks, Drmv! Thank you for the links, too. And thanks to all for being tolerant. I must get out more, eh?

Nahhh, you’re good

I know the first few times I saw them I puzzled over how they could get that stuff on the ground until it sank in that in real life, all those cool graphics like lines and artwork weren’t really there

I truly could have sworn I was once at a race track and saw the name of the race put, in a similar manner, on the track for a moment, somehow. (Yes, I realize that would freak the horses, . . )
