Huh, mysterious red puddle

I went downstairs to do laundry and found a small red puddle in front of my washer.

It didn’t look thick like blood and it didn’t smell like pee. It wasn’t full of mucus or vomit either.

I checked the cat over and cleaned the cat litter. No signs of blood on her white fur. No sign of illness or infection.

Checked the dogs paws and fur around her bum. No signs of blood on her buff/yellow fur and no signs of illness or infection.

I have no idea what it was or who it came from. So now I’m worried about another possible vet bill. It’s the last thing I need right now. I just picked up Dyna’s ashes today.

Rusty water? Could your washer be leaking?

I would not call a vet for a leaking washer.

Seriously, I hope you find it was nothing wrong with your critters.
That is a worrisome find.

I don’t think it’s the washer. It’s only a couple of years old.

Still no I’ll signs from the pets. I’m not calling the vet until I know for certain one or the other is sick. I just can’t afford another vet bill before Christmas.

It’s not necessarily the washer… could be a hose or a pipe leading to the washer, which may not have gotten replaced when the washer did.

Anyone else live in the house who might have spilled something?

Here’s hoping neither the animals nor the washer is sick.

My 3 guys weren’t home. So it wasn’t them. I looked at my washer and can’t see any leaks or stains around it.

The mystery continues.

It could be cystitis - a bit of blood in pee. Our old female cat had this

Did you check teeth? Someone could have broken or lost a tooth. If everyone is acting normally, I’d just monitor them for a while.

Can you put your pets in separate rooms /crates whatever so that if you find another spot you can at least rule one out?

If it is diarrhea, or urine problem you will have a repeat experience…

Don’t jump to any conclusions yet.

Still nothing. Being a mom I can usually identify body fluids and blood. This looked different and had no smell or mucus.

Both the cat and dog are acting normal.

Cystitis can cause blood and dilute pee. Wouldn’t be a whole lot of blood, and might not smell like urine.

Maybe that litter that changes color with blood would be worthwhile?

Still no signs of what caused the red puddle but I think my cat pee’d on my son’s laundry basket. But she is acting totally normal. No signs of blood anywhere.

I simply cannot afford another vet bill before Christmas.

Peeing outside of the box is another red flag, I’m afraid :frowning:

But sterile cystitis isn’t uncommon and kitty cosequin helps. It’s inexpensive and well tolerated when added to feed. Start there?

And that litter that changes color when there’s blood would also be good…

I’m worried about her. It’s definitely not the dog.

My son is her person, so it could be behavior related with all the upheaval in the house. His girlfriend slept over one night (he slept on the couch). So the cat may not have liked that. Lol

The cat is not showing any other signs of infection or pain.

I was also gone for 5 hrs today. That’s when she pee’d on stuff.

Yeah, they usually don’t.

The vet for bloodwork and a u/a is really what should be happening.

Cosequin will help, though, and is cheap.

If you think it’s behavioral, pick up a pheromone collar or a feliway diffuser. Won’t hurt.

And make an appt for the cat after Christmas…

I’m in Canada. Cosequin is not cheap here. It’ll cost me more than taking her to the vet.

Huh?

And I didn’t even think of Amazon. I looked up a couple of sites and it was $100 +.

If she does anything else that is suspicious, I will take her to my vet. Right now she is sleeping her breakfast off. No signs of distress or illness.

Vets bills so far this year are already over $2000. I started the year with 4 pets and now only have 2.

so sorry. I agree with the dilute bloody cat pee. her issues are likely making her associate the litter box with pain (why they start peeing elsewhere).

for now, make sure she is getting a ton of water. Put her on urinary tract wet food (you can get the Purina OTC, Petsmart here carries it but I usually order from Amazon).

Watch her carefully for regular pees, as well. This can happen with a blockage – this was the main symptom my male had before he totally blocked from crystals… On the positive, it wasn’t a very expensive bill for a small animal bill, all things considered. They sedated and put a catheter in, kept him a few days. females get CIF frequently but my vet said they block less – but I’d still monitor carefully. if she is straining and nothing comes out, rush her in. http://www.cat-world.com.au/cystitis-in-cats

is the cat eating wet food? Try the Purina Urinary Tract wet food, it is OTC
