so,Child the Eldest has Enviromental Science this term…now while I shudder to think the topics taught,I did happen upon an in class paper on symbiotic relationships that she had turned in…

her creature to start with was a fox…from the critter went lines and circles showing the connection thereof…

from fox she had written hound and from hound she had written English horsemen:slight_smile:

from fox to hound her teacher wrote “only in the movies”,making I suppose a Disney reference and next to English horsemen she wrote “as opposed to what??”:eek::eek:

I’ll be meeting with her tomorrow

Oh my, set her straight, kindly at first and then firmness if teacher dear displays snittyness at the sport.

“Only in the movies”?! Cripes. Good for you for setting up the meeting!

Oh, DO go to the meeting in hunt clothes.

Maybe you can also bring your own chart, showing the symbiotic relationship between “English horsemen” and “farmers”!

we have a 12:30  I am certain there was no malice involved…just really not knowing anything about what Mariella was talking about…details tonight…

I eagerly await your report!!!

I can’t wait to hear what her teacher had to say.

she’s a nice gal…and Mariella had already explained herself…we let that into lead into a nice talk about modern farming…and sooooo…the three Enviro Sci
classes will be coming here for an overview on modern farming at Mr Calvin’s invitation… hopefully when we are spreading chicken litter:lol::lol::lol:

Wow - that’s the best news I’ve heard all day. Get those kids back out on the farm!

Perfect!!!

Oh, poor Calvin…

they even said “he wants 75 highschoolers out there at one time??”
we said it were’nt no big matter to him… where else will they see actual
science used in the actual enviromnent if not here??? just cause it’s country here, don’t mean it’s farm related for most kids here…

Tamara, I hope you appreciate that most kids that age are not as well disciplined as yours. Did you see that thread on Off Course about wierd things you find in baled hay? I don’t want any high-school-environmental-science-student-body-parts showing up in my mixed meadow grass next year!

And I assume some fraction of that crowd is female; if Calvin is sensitive to us middle-aged female hay cusomers, who have some level of self control, (theoretically), oggling him, he’s going to have a loooonnng afternoon with a pack of high school girls.:lol:

Seriously, good on you for making the offer to the classes, they will get a tremendous benefit from seeing a serious operation like yours, and being exposed to the knowledge you guys have about issues very relevant to their studies.

it’s funny,my teacher friends said the same thing at the ELEM today…“oh lord are you sure???” I have faith  besides…rest enough of the final grade on it and things go smoother…I think we will also seperate the males from the females for the lesson…half get the barn tour with me and half will be with Calvin in more of a theory class…and then switch them back

it was oked today for a full half day in March…we will develop a topic base with the teachers that they can then repeat it back to the kids…some ideas so far include

land use and abuse
responsible stewardship of a working farm
ag inputs affects on end prduction and land use

and maybe I’ll pop in a little on varmits and “english horsemen”

nah…he’s too manly for most of them

Fifth grade was tickled to death as this can open the door for them to make a trip in the spring…we are on a total budget freeze here in the county,so it may mean we have to send buses for them but we are excited about having them as well…

I did a clinic last fall with a prominent horsemanship guy (whose last name does not start with P, A or L). He mentioned, in passing, having done a similar thing for his daughter’s school class. For the particular edification of any young men who might have begun to be interested in his daughter in a certain way, he made sure that the day’s typical ranch activities included castrating piglets.

But it sounds like you’re aiming for a different emphasis.
