hunt coat fit

Can anyone give me a starting place to look for good hunt coats that won’t break the bank & will fit a “pear” shaped rider?
Things have moved as I have gotten older & by the time I cover my rear, the coats I have tried so far are way to big in the shoulders & it looks sloppy.

I am aware that I may have to do some alterations, but I want them to be reasonable ones to do.
thank you

Jackets including fashion suit jackets have all become shorter in general in the past decade. It’s even true in Banana Republic! I wonder if you would be able to find a longer jacket shopping secondhand wool riding coats from a few years back which everyone is ditching for the new stretchy ones?

It would be helpful to know what discipline and level you ride and show.

I’m by no means short, but I’ve found the smartpak piper coat to be exceptionally long. They’ll also have random sales on them - I got mine for $35, so I had no worries about tailoring it myself, either!

Apparently, the current style is shorter for riding coats. Which is a pity, as it looks horrific, on everyone. I won’t wear one like that, I refuse. I also found one that is cut longer than most, on sale, for $40 at a local tack store. It has no maker name in it, other than “Made in India” and it looks fine. And I feel fine about putting it in the washing machine when necessary. All I can say is, “keep looking”, and “good luck”.

I think the RJ Classics coats are great and you can order them in a tall. I ordered mine a size up and then tailored it to fit perfectly. If you have a good tailor, any kind of coat can usually be made to look perfect.

I was just about to say check out the RJ Classics. I still wear wool coats, (I hate how the technical fabrics hang on me) and the RJ in a Long is perfect on me. I carry my weight in my hips and thighs (thanks genetics!) and a short coat is just horrifying on me. Nothing like calling attention to your pear shape. :D.

Bonus, if you can find the (light weight washable) wool coats they are absurdly inexpensive since no one else wants them.

Another vote for RJ Classics coats in a Long. They have options at multiple price points, which is nice too.

Thank you all
