Hunt horses' night off...

I took my camcorder out over the weekend - a last summery evening and I suspected the horses were up for a riot  3 of them had hunted that morning - 2 had clocked up 19 miles but they were obviously ready to party…

Five go mad in Devon…

That was so funny!! It looked like there was an electrical current running through the pasture zapping the horses hooves. Which two had hunted that morning?? All your horses are lovely, especially that bay with the star and snip, what a character. Is this pasture behind your house, the views are breath taking!

What a throughly enjoyable clip. I can’t get over how easy it is nowadays to get a relatively inexpensive HD camera and produce such a professional looking video so casually. It was like watching a movie trailer.

I’ll be popping over the pond in November to visit with some dear friends in Wiltshire. I’m looking forward to gazing out over those wide open pastures from horseback.

There’s something incredibly calming and cozy about English countrysides. I think it’s because with few trees, and wide open grass spaces as far as you can see, it feels less threatening than being surrounded by forest, from which rabid, starving, zombie-commie bears might burst out at any moment to suck your eyeballs out…

Thanks both - Major Mark - I agree - the combination of broadband, a Mac and an HD camcorder have practically revolutionised my life and it takes minutes to put stuff together even for a numpty like me

SLW - the handsome boy is Charlie, Welsh cob x TB - glad you like him! The 2 who hadn’t hunted where the first grey and the bucking bay (of course!) who went on Monday instead - luckily their manners under saddle are a bit better

Too cute. What a GORGEOUS place. Stunning.

I want to go mad in your hay field toooooo! Your horses are beautiful! Do tell on the breeding, please. The one with the star and snip is absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for sharing…

Thanks all - Major Mark, that made me laugh - yep, it does feel pretty safe when your surrounded by deer, badgers and foxes rather than anything bigger  Glad you like the scenery - we are very lucky!

All purpose - the horses are a variety(!) - the bright bay with star and snip is a Welsh cobxTB, the dark bay who is pratting around is KWPN (of course!), there is a Belgian WB (the calm grey!) and 2 Irish sports horses (the mad grey and the terribly sensible bay with a blaze who runs the place)

I’ve got to get an HD camera! Your place is just gorgeous, Nic!

And Major Mark–whereabouts in Wiltshire? My husband’s family is from Wiltshire, about three miles from Stonehenge. Are your friends among the gunners?

I see everyone beat me … Charlie is one handsome peice of horse flesh !!! I did notice also they all looked barefoot and thought wow thats pretty odd but cool. So I got curious and checked out your site  My eyes were not playing tricks !!! Lucky for the bay who almost got power housed by the one gray !!!

Either way, you have a lovely place and even nicer horses!!! Sometimes I think I need to do a bit of relocating

That was like going on vacation! What a gorgeous piece, what absolutely LOVELY horses. From now on I’m going to watch that when I need to just breath and be happy for a moment. Thank you for sharing!

All foxhunters, west of Devizes. I go out with Avon Vale, occasionally The Tedworth.

Great country, and I love Devizes. My husband hunted some with the Tedworth and the Royal Artillery, and I’ve been out with the latter. Small world!

Is Wiltshire where Barbury Castle is? I saw the 3*** there a few years ago. LOVED THE PLACE! No wonder I loved your video so much!

CanTango! - Charlie says thanks, and he knows he is gorgeous

Yep, they are all barefoot but we keep quiet about it, especially on this forum

Allpurpose, we aren’t far from Wiltshire (esp. in US terms!) but we are actually live in north Devon and hunt with the Exmoor Foxhounds.

LMOG - me too - nothing beats sunny footage on long winter evenings!

Add me to Charlie’s fanclub.

Gorgeous horses, gorgeous scenery, cute dog–thanks for sharing!

oh the sensible bay ISH is my favorite! what a great video thanks for sharing- now i have more evidence to show my husband that we NEED to go visit that side of the pond! it’s like a james herriott book has come to life…

Thanks Leather - glad it made you smile!

the sensible bay ISH is my favorite

Skip, you are very discerning - he is called Felix and he IS the man - hunting his 7th season right now, hunted over 700 miles last season…and he jumps like a stag, and he will go like a lamb for a small child or like a rocket for a confident adult. He restored my nerve after a nasty experience and goes over the worst ground on Exmoor as if he is on wings. Lots of people including our Master have hunted him, and I am in awe of that horse

To add to your evidence, I took some snippets of the last day of our previous season here: http://www.vimeo.com/11385391

Hope you make it over here some time soon!

Hey, Nic–do you mind if I put a link to your ā€œlast dayā€ video to our hound blog?

Hounds

I lust after the grey doing the canter-pirouette-type sequence. Be grateful you’re on the other side of the pond, or that sweetie would be in my trailer on the way to my barn. Of course, ANY of them could come home with me. And bet the bays are glad he/she is barefoot.

Love your ā€œLast Dayā€ video. Those are some serious, serious hills!
