As Newbies to hunting, I was curious to see how people were going to be to us. My son has taken up hunting this season! He has had the best time! Coming from a show background, we have met every some interesting individuals. Have to say that the Hunting group has been fantastic! Why didnt we try this earlier!!! Already making plans for a bigger pony and memebrship next yr!
YEAH!!! So glad you are both enjoying! It is a wonderful sport with people of all varieties, so you’re sure to find folks that you will get along with.
You should both look into the different things that go on in the hunt outside of hunt season. There are all kinds of ways to be involved and get to know the hounds, hunt territory, and other members and then when cubbing starts…You will both REALLY enjoy next season.

Last Saturday I took a friend out hunting for her first ever time - she does dressage and a bit of eventing but had never hunted. Lent her a good old hunter of ours and even though she said she fully intended not jumping at all (cos she’d never jumped wire in her life and wasn’t that keen to start now - she’s 50!) after the first wee run I suggested we do a jump and she kinda gulped and said OK - well that was the end of her non-jumping day! She had a ball, and as you’ve said, she was amazed at how welcoming everyone was and what neat people she met. She’s even decided to bring one of her horses up for his first ever hunt in a few weeks. Best ever way to spend winter with horses! =)
