Hunt Photos - 10/31 All New England Hunts Joint Meet

Spectrum Photography is fast! He’s already posted the photos from last Saturday’s joint meet. Daatje and I rode second field. This hunt began at the home of Myopia MFH Mr. Donald Little and took us through Appleton Farms and even Groton House! What a fabulous day.

Here is the link to the photos (the Myopia Ball is also pictured, hunt photos begin on page 22.)

I do love fall! Everyone had a lovely time on that warm and blustery Saturday. Thank-you, and you too! Although my season only has 4 hunts left in it. :frowning: I hate to see it end!

I was all smiles, wasn’t I? I just have so much fun out there. My horse rocks my world, she’s so awesome. To be out with her and my fellow comrades…well, there’s no place I’d rather be!

Thank-you for the compliment on my turnout. I try to always present in a neat and tidy manner with a well braided horse in clean and well maintained tack. It’s not easy! Which reminds me, I have another 2 1/2 hours of tack cleaning/boot polishing to do before this Saturday…

You’re welcome! And yes, you definitely should try to make it to the All New England Hunt in the future. It’s amazing, riding with so many others and the territory in Ipswich, Hamilton and Topsfield, MA is simply breathtaking.

Only 4 hunts left this season??? What sort of schedule does a NH hunt have??

I’m thinking we are lucky out here. Our formal season starts in late Oct (Cub hunting is the 6 weeks prior to that) and we will hunt until the first weekend in April. Some hunts will be canceled due to weather and sometimes the footing bites so I’ll call it a day early…but the hope of a hunt twice a week gets me through these dang “dark at 0-to-early-thirty” in the evenings times. The reality of the longer days gets me through a cold Feb hunt!!

Here in northern Vermont is tough but we stretch out our season as long as we can. We have some “spring hunting” in late May and June. We start cubbing the first of August and formal season at the end of September. Usually we are done just after Thanksgiving. We usually like to get a road trip of hardy souls organized to ride with another hunt a few hours south in December. Some New England hunts can hunt through December but then the snow and temperatures end the fun.
We generally get our hounds out 40 times during a season.

Agree.
Tanheath out of Pomfret, CT is the only hunt I am aware of in the area that hunts throughout the winter. They are a live hunt and of course hunting is “weather permitting” but I have been hunting with them in February (with snow on the ground :D, 30 degree weather) and it was alot of fun but the numbers participating beyond Dec. definitely dwindle. The hunt schedule beyond December is pretty informal in that they don’t really hunt unless the footing/weather permit it. I can understand why most of the NE hunts call it quits after November, it starts to get pretty darn cold up here and footing turns rock hard if there is no snow cover.

I had the opportunity to ride in Myopia hunt country on Monday and it was awesome. Some members of the Myopia hunt took a group of us from my barn on ride there and then went to lunch with us in Hamilton. It is a gorgeous, gorgeous area to ride.

Your horse is beautiful!

The Wentworth Hunt Club season starts with cubbing in late August. Formal Season begins usually the first week of October and ends the week of Thanksgiving.

You guys hunt in February? Wow. Nope, we’re done by the end of November.

Love the photos. Thanks for posting them.
Wow, those are some serious jumps. I recognize some members of the Green Mountain Hounds. Next year I’ll be there too.

Thanks for posting these photos. You have some beautiful estates to hunt on!
