Hunter barn suggestions - Sarasota FL

It is looking as if my family will be relocating from Kentucky down to Sarasota FL for winter seasons for the foreseeable future. There are so many moving parts to it that I am truly overwhelmed with the idea but figured it is time I start to at least investigate the area for boarding.

I have a quite lovely 5yro KWPN gelding who I am attempting to get back into the hunter ring with. I am a new mom who was out of the saddle my entire pregnancy, and still getting my sea legs back right now after having my baby earlier this year. Admittedly I have no realistic ability to show at the top level, but I would love to find a huntery barn to be at while we are down there with show opportunities while down there. As much as I would love to rekindle my Jr years of WEF, that wont be happening. I am a lesson 1-2 time a week, show every now and again type of rider now. Good care and quality, safe facilities are my utmost concern.

While I am not really looking for a pony-land place, I do not want an anti-child barn either. Right now I am at a perfect unicorn of a hunter barn with only 10-15 horses, SO much turnout, great indoor/outdoor arenas, a small group of adorable nice kids, fabulous care, no drama, the works! I would love to find the snow bird version of that down there if it were to exist.

I have never spent any time in the Sarasota area so am going off page 1 of a google search so far. Is anyone down there? Any suggestions on where to go/where to stay away from?

I’m not familiar with the trainers in that area, but you’ll be close to a very low key winter circuit at Venice Winter Venice Equestrian Tour H/J | Fox Lea Farm Inc.

I live in Sarasota from October to June, though my time in Florida is now split between there and Ocala. We’ve always done part of Fox Lea’s winter circuit and love the farm and the owners, so that would be my recommendation. Also, there is a new facility in northeast Sarasota called Terranova, that has an interesting schedule for the winter. Depending on where you live, it would be worth an appointment to check it out. Good luck!
