hey all!! i have a green TB who jumps a 10 in true hunter fashion. we have our first hunter derby next month, and i was curious as to how pelhams are viewed in the derby ring? it is a non rated show, but i would like for my horse to be able to place his best. i do have a snaffle he can go in, but he can get very forward and the pelham helps him stay in a ‘tunnel’ for the scary jumps.
Lots of threads on this if you search! They are absolutely accepted in the hunter ring.
Look at it this way. Any judge will pin a good round in a pelham over a meh round in a snaffle.

if you were neck and neck with another horse it may be a tie breaker (per my trainer who is a judge), but a Pelham isn’t a real problem
