hunter/eventing lesson barns around cleveland, oh?

Hi! I’m the typical recent college grad who was only able to get on a horse a handful of times all throughout school. Before that, I had a solid 12 years of English riding, the last half focused solely on hunters.

I’ve recently moved west of Cleveland (Rocky River) and am looking to get myself back in a saddle on a regular basis. But I have no idea about the horse-scene in this area other than a few Google searches for local barns, so I would appreciate any input you guys have.

I don’t really care about showing (though I’ve always liked helping out the younger kids when they show), I just want to improve my skill and ride, so I’m looking more for lowkey hunter or eventing barns. I don’t have the money for leasing yet (unless it includes lessons as well) and would like to keep lesson costs under $50/per if possible. I don’t mind riding greenies, either.

I would love suggestions if you guys know of any trainers/barns in the area! I also don’t mind if I have to drive upwards of 45 min to get somewhere.

Thanks!

Maybe look into Blue Ridge Farm. I know its near Cleveland. Not sure how close or far. I don’t personally know the trainer, but spoke with Jeffery Taylor on a few occasions when I was possibly going to acquire one of his boarder’s horses as it needed a new home. The horse had come to them underweight and the owner was young and really couldn’t afford the true cost of a horse. Never ended up taking the horse, but Jeffery was very professional to speak with and from their website it looks like a well run, beautiful, friendly facility. I believe it is pretty much an eventing barn, but i could be wrong on that.

Blue Ridge is on west side; most H/J trainers are east of Cleveland, and its a long drive to get there from Rocky River. If they can’t provide what you want, they may have suggestions.

Check out Chagrin Valley- it’s the largest hunter barn there and years ago I taught summer camps and they had a large lesson program. It will be a bit of a haul for yiu.
Blue ridge is closer and quality for sure- but I don’t know if they have any lesson horses. When I was there (also years ago) they had one “token” lesson horse.
