Hunter/Jumper Barn Atlanta good for kids

Hi,

We are looking for a hunter jumper barn in North Atlanta that has younger kids (under 16) and does both some local showing and A showing. Looking for a fun barn for our daughter to find her community. I think some barns trend towards only A shows or older riders- we’d like somewhere that is happy to help her transition from ponyland up on through horses over the years. As a family we do not have unlimited budget but will be looking to lease in the low 5s, possibly purchase in the mid 5s after settling in. Previous experience is that our budget makes us not attractive to serious barns that want riders to spend a lot more and go to WEC each winter. Our current barn doesn’t seem a good fit. Looking for a less serious atmosphere. Thank you for any suggestions!

The Horse Show Ventures shows in Atlanta will be starting up again in March. March 2-3 at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers is the first. The second is April 20-21 at Wills Park. Go to the show and observe.

You will find a number of Atlanta-area barns there with gaggles of children. You can talk to other parents and watch how the trainers interact with their students. It’s a great way to find some barns that might suit your needs. And most, if not all, of the barns you will find showing the HSV circuit are not the kind of barns that go off to Florida in the winter or show the rated circuit.

Agree with checking out the C/Channel II shows. If you’re near Alpharetta, the Cheryl & Co shows are another option. Go watch the pony ring and see who you like or who has a bunch going in your daughter’s division.

Where on the northside? Is Canton/Cherokee area achievable with traffic? Or are you further East?

Try Crooked Creek Farm in Milton- she specializes in children and teens and usually has nice horses for sale and lease. They show a lot but not the huge shows and there is no pressure. It’s a really good environment.

Great suggestions- I will go and observe. I am near Alpharetta so can go to the Cheryl and Co show coming up. Thank you!

If you’re near Alpharetta try Fortitude Farm, Atlanta Equestrian, and Patchwork Farm. Highly suggest Patchwork, I think they have an academy program and some other options for the kiddos (and the training is phenomenal).

Crooked Creek is good too, though turnout was at one point limited to 4 hours a day or so (a consideration if you plan to buy). Showing and lessons wise, it’s a good fit for your goals! I know she’s got a medium up for lease that is affordable and BTDT if your kid can do a pony .

If you can go out to Gainesville, Hillmar has a really nice facility and I’ve got friends who say good things!

Sent you a PM!

I will be judging that show!

Well, heck. I won’t be there.

2023 turned out to be the Year of the Broken Horse and 2024, which was supposed to be the Year of Moving Up, has now been declared the Year of Starting Over. We aren’t going to be ready to hit the show ring until sometime in the summer.

I’ve shown at the HSV shows for a couple of years and I’ve been really happy with them.
