Hunter/Jumper barn near Lexington, KY

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about Ballyhigh Show Stable in Versailles (trainer Joyce Brinsfield) or River Mountain Farm also in Versailles (trainer Elaine Schott, and now her daugher too)?

Thanks!

Robert Murphy Stable has a Diana Conlon there now…that was the only trainer I saw listed.

I saw a post from 2009 but just wondering if anyone can give me detailed information and if anything has changed… Thanks!

I have shown at Ballyhigh multiple times and have lessoned with Elaine Schott. They are both very nice barns within a half mile of each other. Both have indoor and outdoor arenas and Joyce and Elaine are comparable trainers. River Mountain is a bit larger and fancier overall. If you have any specific questions, feel free to message me.

sent you a pm

Can’t speak highly enough about Joyce and Ballyhigh. Beautiful facility, all horses really well taken care of. And Joyce is just a good, honest person. I really enjoyed her teaching when I rode with her. She is just very straight-forward and old-school with her pedagogy and always answered any questions I had, even the dumb ones. Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions.

I have experience at both River Mountain Farm and Robert Murphy Stables.

River Mountain is beautiful. The individualized care was wonderful, the barn was always clean and kept up with, the rings are nice to ride in. Elaine and Callie are lovely, and both very knowledgeable. My riding was dramatically improved under Elaine’s instruction and my horse gained a ton of knowledge from his schooling sessions there.

I have not been to Robert Murphy since Diana has been there, but I do know of her, and have heard great things from the UKET team; as she is now the new coach. The indoor is much smaller in comparison to River Mountain, and there is more traffic of horses and lessons. I’m not sure how drastically different it is than last year when Michelle was there, but I enjoyed my stay- my horses had wonderful care, very friendly atmosphere.

There are several in the area. Depends on area you are looking for. Towards Versailles you have ballyheigh with Joyce thumbs up. She bought a horse I started and made him shine ! I do know Elaine schott. Okay placed def geared to lessons and things. Her husband is a vet. Then towards Georgetown a number of places. Especially in area I’m in. Murphy manor is small but a nice little place. Do well on the circuit. Boggs hill is on the same road and actually my neighbors. Great people. Spy coast does limited boarding. Can’t say enough good about them and they go all out on shows. Ancient oak is very expensive but across the street from the horse park. Can’t beat that. Farther south near Paris pike you have blue ribbon - small but nice people. Also paddle stone equine. They have built a very nice facility. Go a little farther south and you have punchestown nice place just not for me. Take decent enough care of the horses though. Can’t speak I’ll about that. Then there is good old champagne run off Richmond rd but they are expensive and in recent years trending more towards eventing. There are others. I boarded with mickey McDonald years ago and loved her but unfortunately she has passed.away and the farm has transitioned to a tb farm as her husband was broodmare manager for stonewall farm. There are MANY especially in the Lexington Georgetown area as the hunter/jumper circuit is quickly growing around here and getting strong. KBC international and wise choice tack keep a listing of all the locals as well as midway college as no place for students to board their horses at the school. I know at one point they did lease a portion of donamire that had a ring and jumps but don’t know if still the case. Feel free to contact me.
