Hunter/Jumper Barns near Dallas for an adult amateur

So, I’ve recently gotten into riding again (about two years ago). I love jumping. More than anything. However, at my current barn, I just don’t feel like I’m making a lot of progress anymore. They built me from the ground up, and now I’m looking to really progress further!

I’ve already e-mailed a couple of barns (Foxglen, Chantilly, Bay Yard, Hillcrest) but I’m wondering if y’all have any more opinions:

I’d only be looking to ride once, maybe twice a week at most (I can’t afford more than that). I also do not own or lease a horse currently, so I would need a lesson horse, and I currently, unfortunately, do not own any tack, so that’s a necessity as well. I would like to show eventually - preferably local.

I feel stuck in a rut - so I need somewhere with good lesson horses to ride (as there is NO WAY I could afford to buy or lease currently) that can jump decently high. When I start showing, I’d like to start around 2’6-2’9, preferably.

I’d also like a barn with consistency, if that isn’t too much to ask. Where I currently ride, the lessons I have are dramatically different whether or not the owners of the barn are home. I love when they’re gone (I get to actually jump, yay!) but when they’re home, I feel like I’m not advancing, even in my flatwork.

So any advice would be majorly appreciated!

(And yes, I know there are a lot of these forums. I haven’t found a post that really matches my criteria, I’m sorry! Also, I live in mckinney and I’m willing to drive 45mins out! I currently ride in flower mound.)

I’ll let others chime in, but I’m not sure the places you’ve contacted are really going to meet your needs as a once a week lessoner wanting to do local shows.

Have you checked out NTHJC.com at their trainer listing page?

Thats why I thought I’d post and ask here for more information. It’s worth a shot! I have not - I will look there!

I’m local to the area and familiar with quite a few barns. If you want to chat specifics feel free to PM me, I’d be happy to give you advice and info on various barns!

Not unique to the Dallas area. Good lesson program value the longevity of their schoolies and typically limit lessons to 2’6". Beyond that folks move to a lease or purchase.

Yeah, that’s what I figured. I’d really just like to be jumping consistently, at least. I think I’m going to try the Paddocks and hopefully it works out. Thanks for everyone’s help!

If you’re looking to improve your horsemanship as well as your riding, McLaren Equestrian is perfect.

Did @louisecomplex really just join to plug this barn on three super old threads? #tacky
