The above links are of a horse I am looking into adopting. Do you believe he would be suitable for 4’ hunters once trained, as a prospect. He’s 16.1hh. Thoroughbred gelding.

i know which horse you are talking about. the organization is very upfront with what they expect the horse’s suitability is regarding jumps. in his description it says the following:

will best be suited for flatwork careers such as dressage, pleasure, and trailriding with a side of low level jumping too.

he is a droolworthy horse but he is not a candidate for 4 ft hunters.

I misread the description and literally just realized after I posted.

not a problem.

if you are no longer interested in him may i post his link? he is absolutely a lovely horse. looks like he’d make a nice mount for someone who just wants to have fun.

here is the horse (w OP approval)

Of course, he’d make a lovely dressage or pleasure mount.

May I add that there is NO WAY to tell from a conformation picture if a horse will have the scope to jump a course at 4’.

You cannot even tell from a picture of the horse jumping 4’.

Probably 1 in 100 horses can jump 4’ well enough to pin at a show. And those are WBs who are bred to jump.

I have a 5 year old jumper who is easily doing the 1.15m classes. And he has easily free jumped a 5’ oxer. But my trainer still has no idea how much higher he will be able to jump around a course of 12 fences, including combinations.

Oh my, that shoulder! :love-struck: Someone send that link over to the dressage forum
