Hunter/Jumper Stallion With Big Booty & Short Coupling?

Denny Emerson has a Heartbreaker baby that he’s always raving about. Maybe send him a PM on here?

OK, besides the fact that a bunch of people are suggesting stallions for a mare they don’t know, Why do you think you want a short back with a big rump?

Tim[/QUOTE]

BC the mare in question has a long back and a small rump, just my guess.

Look into Goodtimes.

Oops - I must have missed Tim’s post. While her back isn’t particularily long, she is your typical Thoroughbred. Longer loin on the weak side, and not a whole lot of hip to her.

I will do that, because honestly Heartbreaker is exactly what i’m looking for; but I was told he can be troublesome. While the mare in question is the completely opposite and continually throws more like herself in disposition, it did turn me off a little.

I will see if I can track down Danny Emerson.

Pablo gave me a colt who did well in hunter breeding and now (though sold) in the 3’ Pregreens. My Palomar is VERY short coupled and lovely hindquarters, winning the Sallie B. Wheeler twice and winning at Devon. Although the Pilots can be hot, Palomar has a beautiful, laid-back but attentive temperament. He is a very good mover, too, and a stylish hunter.

Carracci might be one to look at. When owned by Dobel, their marketing of him specifically mentioned the powerful hindquarters he puts on his offspring. He is also strongly coupled, like his sire, and passes this along as well. Really nice stallion!

Take a look at Mannhattan! Shortened the back on my mare and gave a really cat-like, stylish jump. He did such a good job I repeated the breeding 4X. They really are all amazing horses.

I hesitate to reply, having not promoted my stallions for several years taking care of an aged parent…but what you describe you want seems to fit my stallion Boleem…not for a hunter, but surely for a jumper.

Though he becames a GP dressage stallion, interestingly, he scored higher in jumping that on the flat in his 100 DT in Holland years ago.

I’ve never promoted him as a jumper sire as that is not what he was competed in, yet top dressage trainers, riders look at his offspring and say…whoa…built for jumping.

My site is still down but you can PM me or email me if you want.
I lost him a few years ago but those who want his lines are still breeding via frozen.

Since my Mom died late last year, I’ll probably put the boys up again for breeding since I will not have to juggle obligations. But…I just couldn’t help myself posting to your description. Big booty (engine) and short coupled.

He is approved GOV and RPSI.

I e-mailed you.

I have bred my tb to Carracci this year and like his strong topline, big bootie, and short coupling. He is 1/4 tb but has 50% tb blood so there is some like to like breeding in this cross. There is footage of him jumping GP with a 12yo and does not look at all difficult and by all acounts he is a sweetheart.

I absolutely love Carracci but his throat latch freaks me out a little bit.

Where does he stand?
Do they have a website? I can’t really find much on Google…
What is his stud fee?
What are his offspring doing?

Gauguin du Cheval

He’s not in Canada, but…he’s thrown a Diploma jumping mare out of a TB mare. He had TWO sons approved today RPSI - one out of a TB mare. He throws CHROME - lots of socks/stockings and blazes. He has a great personality and passes it on. And, drum roll…he has an enormous rear end which he passes on and his get use it to motor! Plus, his offspring have great gaits. His semen ships well and his offspring win at breed shows as well - great conformation on all.

Being in Canada is just kind of a bonus, not really a necessity for me.

Stud fee? Website? Offspring pictures?

Thanks for answering the question Tempi. I feel many people ask for that, but are asking for something different. Length of back, and LS placement are two different things. Carthago, and his offspring can have very long backs, but they are VERY strong with great LS placements. Most TB’s have short backs, and breeding them to short backed WB’s is the wrong thing. What you need are stallions with strong toplines(this does not refer to length), and good LS and croup construction. Just saying short backed doesn’t guarantee this, and could create a problem with an already short back. Example is Connor Casall/Corde/Capitol stamm 6879. He is a great stallion so far. He has a shorter back with long legs. I bred a mare to him with a long back who could use improvement in her croup. The result was a really nice front end, and no improvement in the topline. The length of back had no effect on this improvement.

So, I would re-word your question to Hunter/Jumper stallions with strong toplines and LS placements. You will get better choices. Just as a matter of history, most TB’s need this, but not all WB’s fix it.

Good Luck

Tim

He stands in KY. Offspring in EU are doing 1.40 and above. I’ll send you his contact info.

I was under the impression that longer backs are good things for jumping horses. Agree with everything RyTimMick has posted. The loin connection and LS would seem to be what you’d want to improve, not the length of back.

The European stallion Good Times might interest you.
I am breeding my large-framed, long-backed athletic mare to him to shorten her back. He breeds jumper and dressage horses - have never heard of a hunter by him, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist
I am so excited for my Good Times foal - Good Times is known to pass along a shorter back, so he might suit you. His hind end is ok.

We are thrilled with our colt by Amazing and his topline and engine (hindend) always gets noticed and commented on. I would not count him out of your search. Ahna is great to work with and I have found her to be very honest and up front about what types of mares cross best and what he will and wont have a shot at improving. Thebest part about our colt is his personality. He is such a sweet heart. I have also found that Amazing’s foals are very marketable if that is at all a concern for you. Good luck in your search.
