Hunter jumper trainers in Northern California?

My trainer is leaving to Kentucky in a few months for school so I’m looking for a hunter jumper trainer anywhere around Chico, California. I’m wanting to get alot more serious in showing so a well known trainer that’s been around rated shows would be perfect! (:

I think you may have to drive a bit. Gay Talmey is north in Cottonwood, or go south to Woodland or Davis. I think Natalie Rooney goes to some jumper shows, although she’s an eventer, and Peter . McGreggor os at Hacienda Halaguena… there might be someone at Willow Creek. Idk.

Brookhaven Farm (Brian Bodarke) is located in Chico.

Depends on how much you want to ride and how much you can drive to ride. Chico to Woodland/Davis is going to be a hike every day or even 5 days a week.

OP, to help us out, what are you looking for when you say you are looking for a trainer? Do you want the horse in full training, or do you want to ride fairly frequently? How far are you willing to drive?

My trainer always drove from Orland to my house (on the outskirts of oroville on the way to chico) and gave me lessons once a week. It worked out well. In the summer I usually have lessons twice a week, then when school starts I would have a lesson once a week. I board my horse at my house so i’m not sure my mom would be willing to trailer every week for a lesson though.

I know your post was from a few years ago, but I’m curious if you ever found a trainer or if your trainer returned? I’m looking to take lessons again and am coming up short for trainers in the Chico area.
Thanks for any info you have!!

Kkrehbiel I literally just saw a ad for a hunter/jumper barn in Chico all the way over here in New Zealand

Silver Fern Sport Horses. Have no idea if they are good, but it caught my eye because I am from Sacramento. Good luck!

PS it also said they were looking for a working student or assistant. Not sure if that would work for you, but maybe a good way to get back into lessons.

Kkrehbiel, Peterson Equestrian is in Marysville. I don’t know them very well, but I’ve seen them around at a lot of the Sacramento area H/J shows & they seem like they’d be worth a try.

Hi! I live it Chico. Not many H/J barns in the area. Either Silver Fern or Brookhaven Farm are pretty much THE only h/j barn in the area. Valerie Owen is an event trainer in the area and has a pretty big following. You can PM for more info. I ride at Brookhaven Farm and at Camelot Equestrian Park. I also manage the hunter/jumper schooling shows at Camelot.
