Note: I started a very similar thread over on Riders with Health Issues, but I’d also like to hear specifically from fellow fox hunters on this…
Just over a month ago, my mare and I parted ways at a high rate of speed and I now find myself in a hard cast recovering from ORIF surgery (two plates, many screws). I’ve been reading old threads and see that many folks say it took them about a year to feel fully recovered from similar surgical procedures…but I am wondering what that actually means.
Is that a physical recovery (no more pain/weakness when riding) or a mental one (personally, I have this irrational worry that I am going to put my heel down and the bones are just going to disintegrate around the hardware)?
A year from my injury puts me right at the start of formal season in 2018…is it reasonable for me to expect to be able to hunt in the field next season? Have any of you guys had the same or similar surgeries?
By the time I will be able to get back on (at the earliest) it will have been 3 months since my injury, so I am expecting to be completely out of shape as well as weak on that leg in particular–no hunting for me this year. So bummed…I just bought a new field hunter this spring and was really looking forward to this season!
