He is reserve but currently active duty, so I guess that answers the question right there!!
I will get pictures believe me… I can’t wait until I get some myself!!
My dad was a Navy Officer as well. I love men in uniform!!

Promise?
Cuz if he comes out hunting - you simply MUST let me know - and let Hunter’s Rest know too. We’ll cap with your hunt and she can take some photos.
Let me know if your SO has trouble finding that regulation (he shouldnt’) I can find anything - it’s one of my few talents.
I promise.
Imagine him in full dress, on his shire mare… four white socks, a knights horse…
It’s something to be seen. I have been giving him a lot of coaching, and even in regular riding clothes… he looks great. I’m biased, but in uniform… OMG, he’s gonna turn heads.
I want to get him on my new TB gelding when he’s settled and has some training as well. Big tall black TB gelding. With the uniform, the cape, and saber… wow that will be a sight.
Randy loves this stuff. Loves the history behind all of it as well…
I can’t wait to see it myself… LOL.
In recent years in uk. the military guys wear riding helmets that are similar in colour to their uniforms, team chasing which always has military classes are where I have seen this.
Wish the hunts here did team chases, they are soo much fun.
It is a great sport in UK.but not for the feint hearted.
Of breeches and kilts…
So here I am, vaguly thinking this morning that the Scottish regiments might have a bit more of an issue when it comes to riding in uniform to hounds , but then, lookee what I found:
Probably a slightly less chafing option than kilts (unless you’re on a saddleless chubby Highland garron, perhaps).
And also, for la Gringa, to complete your husband’s (well, horse’s) look:
You could replace the Guards’ insignia with some log ones.
He’s the neatest seller of old militaria and hunting kit; uniforms, buckskin breeches, boots, canary vests, etc - browsing his listings can be like wandering through a museum!
I don’t hunt, but what an interesting discussion!
My husband is an Army veteran, and at our wedding 2 weeks ago his best man (active USAF) wore his mess uniform, he looked SO handsome and I’m thrilled to have him look like that in our pics
Oh Tiempo - congratulations!!! I’m very happy for you.
One of the reason I like the hunt ball so much is all the eye candy. Last year we had a bumper crop of Marines. Yes indeedy, 2007 was a good year for Marines.
(geez - I can’t tell if I’m blushing or having a hot flash. I’m way too old for this stuff)
fernie fox- not sure why you mean by team chases for overseas…but I believe we do have them over here. However, people use team chases interchangably.
I always enjoyed seeing cadets from USMA at horse shows in their uniforms. There are some pics on their website: http://www.usma.edu/uscc/dca/clubs/pony/number%202/index.htm.

Thank you, I’m just thrilled! :D:D
Yes, Paul had a lot of ladies at the wedding fanning themselve’s
Randy resd this thread and says I made him look like a dork saying he had 5 pairs of Dehners before riding a horse of his own. He corrected me… he had 2 pairs… and in fact Dehner is the official bootmaker for the Army… so he actually has regular Army Dehners as well… LOL.
He is very into the uniform correctness and the history of it all. He loves being in uniform, and I love seeing him in it. He’s no dork…
I think it’s so cool he wants to hunt in his uniform.
I too get weak in the knees for men in uniform. What is it that does it to us??
Navy Dress Whites floor me, Dress Blues too.
Sigh…

Tyler was long out of the army before I met him, but I’ve seen the pictures.
Very handsome, but too young for me

When I was on active duty I wore my mess dress to the hunt ball. My best friend wore hers too. I thought it was very fun, especially since it was a combined hunt ball between the Artillery Hunt, Ft Leavenworth and Tulsa. I think there were only a couple of others in military uniforms. My friend used to wear her uniform eventing all the time as well.
I never wore mine in the field. Too expensive to be getting dirty and messed up. But as a retiree, if I went back to Leavenworth I would have to seriously consider the possibility of pulling it out, especially in good weather.
I don’t have an army calvary uniform and am not familiar with that. Which uniform is he talking about wearing? Class A? Mess dress? The calvary uniform is a specialty uniform, not really an army wide uniform, not sure what the reg would be on wearing something special like that. I guess if he is authorized to wear that uniform it should be ok. I would probably wear my Class "A"s with slacks. Not sure what to do about the breech issue. Perhaps Class A top and regular riding breeches? What do the Leavenworth riders do? I just don’t remember.
The full meal deal!
Here’s a gorgeous complete cavalry officer’s uniform (and I’m sure for a fee he’d deliver it in person!):
Made by one of THE best tailors in London, sigh. Bit sad, really.
Servicemembers aren’t supposed to just pick and choose which bits of their uniform to wear.
Just sayin’.
I vaguely recall that the relevant AR describes the correct uniform. Nope - not specifically - hence but it does go into authorized wear. I’m amazed this stuff is online - sure coulda used it when I was in the service - but Al Gore hadn’t invented the Internet yet. ;)
Here’s the reg (USArmy) anyone interested will have to verify it’s the current one.
I’ve been attending National Cavalry Competitons since 2003. In each there has been Active Duty Army participation by officers and enlisted.
The female officers (one MAJ and one COL) appeared in the Dress Blue Blouse, breeches (I don’t rememer the color specificially but it was light), English boots, helmet, and gloves. Both had sabers on their saddles.
The COL was actually retired, but wore the exact same uniform as the MAJ.
The males (officers and enlisted) all appeared in Greens (blouse and breeches) with black English boots, gloves, and helmet. Some carried sabers and some didn’t.
Most of the Army participation has been by the various color guards (from Forts Carson, Riley, Hood, Knox, etc.). They usually appear in period uniforms under the command of a senior sergeant.
There appears to be some latitude in the Army’s rules on this. Not being Army I don’t know how that works.
Since my wife and I are retired it would not be appropriate under Naval Regulations for us to appear at the hunt in uniform as a matter of routine. Similar to the rules of the other services Naval Regulations limit the wear to patriotic events, parades, formal affairs, etc. We could probably do the Opening and Closing meets, Hunt Ball, etc. as those are “special events” and would tend to bring credit to the Service. The Cavalry Competitons last three days and uniforms are expected of all participants, so we are OK there.
Seems to me that judgement should be used in determining if this is a good idea or not, and the Master’s opionion should count (but mabe not be the final word).
G.
P.S. The COL was an interesting lady. She was an MP and, as a very junior Shavetail had the honor of personally escorting Hanoi Jane out the gate at Fort Hood. She had the photo to prove it!!!
Umm, if I bid high enough, you think he’d deliver personally all the way to Texas? All I can say is “ME-ow”! Yummy!
Dare you!
LOL - ask him! Bet he’d be chuffed to bits if you did!
However, as JS pointed out, one can only wear the uniform of one’s own regiment, etc, if one is to be utterly correct, so you’d have to invite him to (a) be a guest at your hunt, so that (b) he could wear the uniform to hunt in.
Lookee - combining two threads into one!
