Hunting items at Hash's online auction in Berryville, VA today (Monday)!

Was at Hash’s Auction this morning checking out the items for sale, and saw several foxhunting items that are well worth bidding on:

Lot #1662 - hunting boots with tops - Vogel. Very nice condition. Come with boot stays (interior thingy that keeps the boot upright when not in use - sorry but I’m having a senior moment and drawing a blank on the correct term), I think they are a size 11 (I measured the boot itself and placed it next to my size 8 foot to verify - so it is a 10 or 11). From the bottom of the sole (inside) to the top of the outside the boot height is 19 1/2". The heel is 1" high. Soles and heels in excellent condition, as is the boot leather. Right now (4PM) they are at $25.

Lot #1662-A - Canary vest, made in England. chest: 40"; waist: 38" VERY VERY nice. In perfect “used” condition. All the buttons tight, and the silk back is lovely. Right now (4PM) it has a bid of $5.50

Lot #1662-B - Canary vest, made in Ireland. Chest: 42"; waist: 40". Nice, but has dark “dots” along the edges - not sure why but it looks like it might be a custom look?? Also the silk back is torn (vertically) at the bottom, as if it was put on someone bigger than suitable. Right now (4PM) it has a bid of $5.50

Lot #1661 - rubber boots - “Aigle” (made in France) Has a big “M” inside - guess that means medium. Also stamped with these two numbers nearby: 39 2. Right now (4PM) it has a bid of $26

Also there is #1698 - A hunting saddle, 17 1/2" by a quality manufacturer. Now, I honestly tried to read the plate above the stirrup hanger, but for the life of me just couldn’t see it good enough (it was worn in one spot) to really say who the saddlery maker was. But it was a long name spanning top and bottom of the plate. Was hoping the auction item listing would say, but it only says “saddle”. :sigh: In good condition, but looked a tad tired as if it had been sitting for a long time. Tree felt good, seat was perfect, flocking looked good, too. Leather was in very good condition - a tiny bit dry, but no tears that I could see. As of right now (4pm) it has a bid of $4.25.

Hash Auctions is located in Berryville (Clarke County) (northern) VA just on the west side of the Blue Ridge (with Middleburg, Upperville, on the east side). Hash now only has online auctions, so all the bidding is done from your computer.

They have some foxhunting art coming up in their Thursday auction. Nothing old - all are reprints, but in excellent condition. Already framed and ready to hang. That auction listing (plus other upcoming auctions) is here:

Wow - those were really nice. Thanks for the heads up.

FYI - the “black dots” you saw on the canary vest is called “hand picking” or “pick stitch”. It’s only seen on very high end garments; often bespoke.

Whoever won that bid got an excellent quality vest for an enviable price.

Ah! Thanks for the explanation, Jess. Yup, the vests went dirt cheap for such nice quality. $16 (for the vest made in England) and $10 (for the vest made in Ireland with the hand picking). The Vogel leather boots with the russet tops went for $51, and the French rubber boots for $45.

What…a…steal.
