Hunting newbie, how do I find a hunt to join?

I’m kind of new to my area and am interested in hunting. Please excuse me if I use incorrect terms… I come from an eventing background but switched to reining shortly after moving to north Alabama so I have not met many English riders. I’m getting a new mare next week that I’ll event on and should be great out in the field.

I’ve been out a few times with a couple local groups but my ‘contact’ has moved off and we have lost touch and I don’t remember anyone well enough to approach them. I work M-F so I could only go out on the weekends, but would really like to get involved and meet some people in the area.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Do you remember where the local group met? I would just drive over, sans horse, and talk to someone. Also, there are 2 stickys at the top of this forum that will probably help. Hunting is a great winter sport for the eventer.

You have a great resource in the MFHA website http://www.mfha.org/hunts-map.html which includes a searchable map of recognized hunts and has contact details and web addresses to find out more at the local level.
