Hunts in Ohio

Does anyone know of any hunts in the Northern Ohio area?

Something that is friendly to folks that are newer to hunting. I am experienced rider, but would love to learn to hunt. I have two solid horses that I believe would really enjoy it. Any advice?

I also understand that I would need to contact the Secretary regarding dress code.

This is the web site for the MFHA. It has a listing of hunts by alphabetical order, geographical location and a handy Google map that shows the general location of the different hunts that are affiliated with the MFHA.

Chagrin Valley is in northeastern Ohio. Everyone I’ve met from there has been very nice.

I thought Chagrin was a private hunt? They are very close to me and would work well, but I was informed it was invitation only :frowning:

As Kodiak said, the folks I’ve ridden with from Chagrin have been great. Miami Valley Hunt is about 3 hours south of Gates Mills and we are just absurdley nice. We could find you a place to put up horses and yourself overnight, too, I’m sure.
Consider this an invitation!

Chagrin is wonderful. I know several people that have hunted with Grand River as well and enjoy it.

Rocky Fork Headley Hunt is in Central Ohio. Nice fixtures and overnight stabling is available. Check out the website, rockyforkheadleyhunt.com. Lots of paces and events over the summer, too.

I reached out to an invitation only hunt when I relocated. It actually took me quite a while to work up the nerve to contact them.

Guess what? I received an almost immediate response back, they were extremely gracious, I was put on their mailing list and activities list to participate. They met me and walked me around the kennels, talked to me about the breeding of the hounds.

The hospitality was amazing. They want to keep the tradition and hunt alive and going. Thankfully they welcome allowing new people to hunt with them and see if it is a fit. AND they welcome kids, the next generation of hunting.

I have yet to ride out with them, but plan on spending the summer walkign the hounds and participating in other events.

Never hurts to reach out.

I don’t hunt, but I know quite a few people who hunt with Chagrin Valley, and they’re all great. The Grand River people I know are lovely, too.
